Another thread question for other teachers

I know it is professionally and ethically wrong to tell parents together that one of their children did something to the other child and tell them they might want to talk about it together but where does the parent of the accused child stand if they want to complain about this?

Can you explain a bit more?

hercules1 · 04/11/2007 10:44

Sorry for the vagueness. Don't want to get recognised.

Does a parent have grounds for complaint if a teacher tells another parent it was her child who hurt theirs and does so in front of both kids and parents?
Young primary age btw.

I'm not sure it is grounds for complaint. Are you saying, that you think your child was accused unfairly, OR, is it the fact that the other parent was included?

Sorry for being a bit thick!

hercules1 · 04/11/2007 10:59

Not my kids btw.

There is no dispute that one child hurt another. It is the way it was dealt with by the teacher i.e. telling the name of the child who did it to the victims parents in front of those parents.
Sorry again for the obvious annoying vagueness!

Well it could have been handled a bit more tactfully, but I'm not sure it is legitimate grounds for complaint

Perhaps a letter to headteacher expressing concern might help, and ht may have word with teacher.........

fizzbuzz · 04/11/2007 12:52

I don't know if it is morally or ethically wrong, if teacher was trying to work towards a solution.

I've been teaching 13 years (although not primary)and not come across this.

Perhaps some one will be along later who knows more than me...

NKF · 04/11/2007 12:57

Was it in front of other parents or were they nearby and listening in hard?

hercules1 · 04/11/2007 13:38

It was done in front of other parents and was very awkward for everyone.
No one wants to complain at the moment btw just interested to know in case it continues to happen.

It's all a bit vague so this os probably no use. But I think the parents of the children involved probably have a right to feel cross. But everyone else should just pretend they heard nothing and not discuss the incident with each other.

hercules1 · 04/11/2007 13:41

sorry for vagueness!

I only mentioned vagueness as a way of explaining why what I have to say may not be useful at all.

hercules1 · 04/11/2007 13:53

No it is useful. Thanks.
