My DC'S go/went to a C of E primary school and DS goes to a Foundation school where he was selected on apptitude for technology, so we would be affected by both rules
Not all church schools are succesful. My sister was a TA in a primary c of E school which was awful. In her class alone they had 9 children on report.
But the schools that are successful are because they attract like minded parents who care about their children's education, but this applies to non religeous schools as well.
The church schools wouldn't be there if the churches hadn't set them up in the first place, paid for the buildings to be built etc.
Instead of destroying what is successful why doesn't the government find out what is successful about these schools and apply that to ones that are not succeeding.
With regard to the foundation schools that selects 10% on apptitude. DS goes to a school about 5 miles away that is science and technology status. This school suits him really well as these are his strengths. We also have a local school that selects on aptitude for language.
Neither of the tests can be studied for or tutored for as they are not based on natural aptitude not ability.
DS's test was based on a comparison of verbal and non verbal reasoning
For the language aptitude test they are given grammer rules for a fairly obscure language then told to work out verb ending etc.
I can't see the reason for children that have talents in a particular area not go to a school which can encourage and develop those talents
