Hello! We're considering Moor Park School in Shropshire as a school for our DCs. Do you have any thoughts from a parental point of view that you could share with me? Thank you! Smile

Appreciate this is an old post but did you decide on Moor Park? Also considering it x

Hello! We just moved our children to Moor Park and are delighted with the school and the children are very happy. Feel free to PM if you have specific questions.

Moozy · 04/05/2021 21:59

Both my DDs are at Moor Park and are very happy there. Has great scholarship results without being hot-housey. Feels a bit like an Enid Blyton school - lots of tree climbing, and when there isn't a global pandemic encouraging of outdoorsy stuff etc; exactly what we wanted having moved from London.

We moved our DC from another local prep school and find MP more outdorsey, more sporty and better quality teaching. We're really pleased and would recommend it.

That's encouraging to hear, we are also in another local school and just trying to weigh up the pros/cons of switching, they certainly seem to offer more to working parents in terms of after school clubs etc than where we are now....the only thing that worries me is their finances but I know lots locally are struggling! How big are classes? I'd heard they were very small in some year groups with students leaving to HCS. Thanks

Bubble14 I have PM'd you. Our classes are about the same size as our previous school so I'm no unduly alarmed. But undoubtedly it's a hard time for private schools. We've not been there long so I can't comment on students leaving.
We're very impressed so far by the teaching. Both of our children are reasonably bright but one more motivated than the other so one needs more supervision and I'm glad he's in a small class. The more motivated one is very happy with her lessons and say the teachers are good at helping those who need more help and good at differentiating the work for those who can work more quickly. So she's really pleased. Our only regret is that we didn't go there sooner!

So pleased to see some lovely responses! Thank you for your thoughts about the school.

@Bubble14
We have decided to move our DCs there. What about you? Have you made a decision yet?

@Moozy @MrPickles73
Do your children board? We're local (ish) and my DC won't be boarding, but are the majority of the families local enough to arrange playdates? How have you found getting to know other families?

What would your children would say is the best thing about Moor Park and what would they say could be better? Was the school good at helping them make friends and settle in when they first joined?

I hope you don't me asking all these questions! Your thoughts are very much appreciated. Smile

@Chocstar we've not decided yet, we are having a look round next week but definitely like the sound of what we've heard. We are localish too so won't be boarding if we move ours x

Chocstar we live 30 minutes from the school. Most children are day pupils but our eldest really enjoys boarding(!) and insisting on doing one night a week which she loves! Apparently the breakfasts are excellent. There's another child from her class in our village and the nearest child in my son's class lives 15 mins away. Most families live within 30 mins of the school I'd say. Other families have been very welcoming (despite lockdown!).
The best thing for us is the quality of teaching. DD is really enjoying her lessons. Can't think of anything I would change...?? We're just delighted the children are happy and enjoying their lessons. DD was settled within a week. They give new children a buddy to help them for the first few days and there is a class rep who is on hand to help parents with queries. The teachers are very approachable and helpful.
Hope this helps. Feel free to PM if you have more questions.

@MrPickles73

Thank you for answering all of my questions! Smile It's really good to hear that other families have been welcoming and that they don't live too far from the school. We're also about 30 mins from the school.
