Does anybody know of a forum / app / website that I can join that will answer any homework question (on any topic) that my son (GCSE Year 10) gets? It’s all getting too difficult for me now! Sometimes we just can’t find the answer we need ourselves.

If he is struggling to complete homework, the best thing is to raise that with his teacher, as they may otherwise assume he understands more than he does if he is getting help from elsewhere - as in, someone or something else is answering the questions.

Are there specific subjects he struggles with? My areas are MFL and English if I can suggest anything specific in terms of supportive resources. It would be more helpful for him to develop skills needed to help him answer questions.

It’s normally science. As most of the lessons are over zoom he’s finding it difficult to ask the teacher lots of questions so we try to look ourselves. Last night we answered a question (which took a while) and there were about 15 in total (of the same type) so we wanted to check we were on the right track before carrying on and doing the rest.

If he really has no idea how to do his science homework I would email the teacher and tell them. Unless he has extra needs it really should need to be "we" doing his homework. I would support if asked at KS4 (eg check they were on the right track, mainly with my subjects tho!) but no more than that. 15 questions he cannot even start on sounds like an issue the teacher needs to deal with.

sorry that was it really shouldn't need to be "we"

Ok I’ll speak to the teacher. Thank you for your advise.

I asked my dad’s science teacher because she got stuck on a question about cells and she said bbc bitesize is really good and you can find the exam board to get the right coverage.

OP apologies for my rather staccato posts yesterday, I was posting on a dodgy bit of tech which means I have to be curt.

I would contact the teacher, but agree with others, BBC Bitesize is good, also have you bought the CGP revision guides - they should answer any questions. If he is doing actual exam-style questions, then you can look up the GCSE past papers (check the board - AQA, Edexcel etc) and you will also find the mark schemes there which will tell you what answers are acceptable. The examiner reports are also useful.

Unfortunately, there aren't very many past papers for the new specs, especially as last year's exams weren't done and for that reason the 2019 papers are still not released (AFAIK) - so you will be looking at 2018 papers and a sample set only (2017 also available for maths and English). Still it might be worth a look, especially if there are specific concepts that he is struggling with.

Thank you ladies for your help. I have also found an app called Socratic where you take a photo of the question (any topic apparently) & it gives you an explanation & answer. I haven’t tried it yet but could be a good tool to also have!
