My child isn't getting lessons in lockdown

My child is in secondary school but the school are only delivering worksheets and powerpoints etc... during lockdown, which are unmarked.
My child is not getting access to any online lessons via Zoom. Seems that the teachers aren't doing an awful lot to be honest and I'm not very happy about this.
Do children have a right to online lessons led by a teacher (zoom, skype, teams etc...) during this lockdown period (as I know happens in many schools) or is it a case that it is up to the school how they deliver lockdown learning?
Thanks

So between teaching key worker / vulnerable children who are on site in school full days, preparing those home school resources, marking, calling parents twice a week, and with ppa time being obliterated from the schedule, when do you think teachers ARENT teaching?

That might be the case where you are.

In my DC's school we have 3 teachers and 3 LAs minimum per year, teaching 15-20 children between them.

I think that leaves plenty of time for preparing home resources.

Marking seems to consist of writing "good effort!" So far.

And we'll be lucky to get two calls a term from the teacher.

It just doesn't seem that onerous to me. Yes I know there are vulnerable families etc too to look after, but the workload is less.

At DD’s school they are doing broadcasts from the classroom so for any key worker children and home based children it is the same lesson so workload is not duplicated.

Some lessons that lend themselves to it are being set and broadcast by teachers in rotation to the entire year and not separate classes, actually giving teachers more time for marking and feedback and also allow for any staff absences.

No right to live lessons
No way of you knowing what teachers are doing
No way of knowing what will or will not be marked.

Calm down. Worst comes to the worst the BBC are starting 3 hours of learning every day starting Monday and there's the Oak Academy. Your vitriol helps noone.

Describing a concerned parent as spouting vitriol is a bit strong. I would be upset about a child of mine getting a poor deal and as some schools are clearly doing well and others are not demonstrates it is perfectly possible. It doesn’t mean it is right or fair when a child gets less than a school next door with similar resources. DD’s school have those who don’t have home computing in school for example. They used the summer to set up classrooms with facilities to broadcast lessons. They asked local businesses and grant authorities to help as they didn’t have all the money.

Speaking to local parents who’ve had good and bad experiences, it seems to be down to the leadership and if they are finding ways to facilitate learning or just floundering and not learning anything themselves and teachers who don’t know how to use the tech being allowed to keep saying they can’t rather than can. There are lots of schools doing a grand job, I’d be miffed if I was a parent with a DC at the school next door to DD’s and saw my DD was getting a great education and mine wasn’t, both state schools.

Oak academy really isn’t upto muster, it is very basic, for higher level GCSEs it is frankly quite poor. It also isn’t interactive but Teams lessons do allow pupils to ask questions.

Really? Vitriol? I don't think so, just a concerned parent. And calm down? Seriously? Lovely that you have access to my state of mind. I am calm but concerned and just wanted to know what others experience was and what I should expect. And I expect my child to be educated by the school not an online learning platfrom. Shame you don't understand my point.

Talk to your school. They will be trying to make it work for the majority. Live lessons are often unworkable but you should I think be having some contact. This week has been appalling for schools due to all the chopping and changing from the DFE and Gav. But if this goes on, talk to them.

The issue is why some schools are able to offer live/ recorded lessons and some offer pathetic worksheets and no feedback. Some parents no doubt have unreasonable expectations, but some teachers also become incredibly defensive when reasonable questions are asked.

Absolutely this.

I feel afraid to question anything about home learning at our school as the rhetoric of teachers being overworked and pulling out all the stops is so strong, and I don't want my children treated badly or differently.

I know secondary leadership teams especially have had a very difficult time of it and are working incredibly hard, and I do have empathy with them, but I also have valid (to me, at least) concerns about my children's learning at home.
