Explicit RSE materials in schools

LapuisLazuli · 03/12/2020 16:59

For parents finding out what RSE curriculum their child's school is using, this short video highlights the over-sexualised or factually incorrect content included in some lessons:

Also, this website lists safeguarding concerns about certain mainstream RSE providers: rsereview.org/resources/

Some RSE materials are fine, but it's worth checking you're happy with what your school has chosen.

It might be better if you explained what this is about in your post rather than expecting people to click on random links.

I’m going to take a wild guess and say it’s about gay/queer/ trans issues?
Or masterbation “techniques” or anal sex?

@SoupDragon @FelicityPike

Here's some of the concerning RSE content mentioned in the video:

  • Sex dice game for ages 13+ by Proud Trust.
Transgender Trend describe the game: 'There’s a grid to explain what is the activity, say, when anus meets anus (“tricky to achieve…but can be pleasurable”) or when object meets anus. “Every combination is worthy of a conversation” says the text and the risks are downplayed (instructions are to use a lubricant and remember that objects “must be retrievable!”)' rsereview.org/resources/the-proud-trust/
  • Respect Yourself (Withdrawn by Warwickshire County Council in 2019). Its Sextionary for ages 13+ gave advice on sex with strangers: "If you are on a girls' holiday and make the decision to sleep with someone you've just met - for safety's sake, taken them back to your place, where you know your friends are only in the next room".
rsereview.org/resources/respect-yourself/
  • Gender Unicorn: portrays gender identity as being on a spectrum and uses the phrase “sex assigned at birth”. transstudent.org/gender/

Really highlights the need for parents to consult with schools!

I have ABSOLUTELY zero problems with any of that. As long as the teacher explains that beastiality is illegal then they’re not wrong. Some people ARE sexually attracted to animals that’s just a fact.

SoupDragon · 08/12/2020 11:20

Me neither.

Level75 · 08/12/2020 11:26

That video is hilarious! A load of opinions and anecdotes and lacking any evidence. It doesn't in the slightest cover what kids are actually taught about. Utterly pointless scaremongering.

cabbageking · 11/12/2020 20:07

Other than covering periods in year 6 there is nothing sexual in our primary PHSE.
Covers bullying, online safety, healthy relationships, healthy eating, drugs, Staying safe, who is a trusted person, safeguarding, helping others, appropriateness, privacy, etc.

zaphodbeeble · 11/12/2020 20:09

I’m an RSE lead in a school, this is nonsense

Thatwentbadly · 11/12/2020 20:15

I would consider myself a TERF and I’m an ex secondary PSHE teacher. The only thing in that list which would potentially concern me is the unicorn game which I would want to know more about. There is always a kids who asks about animals and sex. Always.
