my ds1 is in class 2 and although he is a very bright boy doing very well academically, he is in a class with a lot of children who are very naughty and show no respect for anyone. The teaching assistant has said in all her time as a ta she has never known anything like it. My son this morning said to his dad "will you just shut your big fat gob!!!!!!!!!". I couldn't believe it because he would never have known words like that from home. I know they pick up things from school, but is there anything I can do about it?

We have the same problem with DS1(10/yr 6). He was put into a "social skills" group in yr 2 so his skills could be used as an example and he hasn't been quite the same since.
I think you need to positively reinforce how you have brought him up and that's how you expect him to behave all the time. If he's anything like my DS he is probably copying to fit in more (my DS is not in any way "streetwise").
Does your school use the "Golden Rules" behaviour system?

children will copy what they see other kids doing. Are these kids going to be in your ds's class for the foreseeable future?

if yes, your only hope is to get the teacher to try and take your concerns seriously. tbh - I would be more worried about the effect on his education. If the teacher can't control the class there won't be much learning going on.

Can he change class?
