Independent schools and local accents?

If you educate your DC privately and live outside the SE, does your child still speak with a local accent or does their school influence them not to?

I have recently watched quite a few independent schools’ virtual tours and videos on websites/ social media.
I cannot help but notice that everyone I have listened to speaks with no trace of a local accent. And the schools in question are in the Midlands and the NW!

Do the schools intentionally chose to only include these pupils in their videos who speak with a certain accent or does every child at the school speak like that?

I went to the local private school as a day girl so started with a strong Bristolian accent and emerged with a slight west country burr. There were girls from all over the world (a lot from military families) so a variety of accents.
It would be interesting to know what the accents are like for the current intake because the school no longer offers boarding.

I’ve noticed my older DD alters how she speaks depending upon who she’s speaking to. She left school 10 years ago. Boarding school - but only a few with upper class accents. She has no accent but can turn on a posher version of herself if she want to. But she can also speak with accents - more of a party piece. She just absorbs accents.

I was at a private school outside of SE, the school purposefully drove any accents out of us and taught us RP.

My nephew went to a private school in Manchester and definitely has the local accent. However, boarding schools might be different because their intake will be from further afield and also, if its a really posh private school full of really posh children then they will probably have developed a posh accent before they arrived at the school or through their environment generally. Not all private schools are really 'posh' though, many are more down to earth and many have a proportion of bursary children from varied backgrounds.

In my experiment if one family... husband from area with distinct accent. He and his brother both went to private school and I’d say that softened their accent considerably compared to their parents but it is still obvious and people often comment on it . My daughter has nothing of his accent at all. She’s pure RP.

My 2 go to a reasonably rough school. A real mix of pupils.

Dd i think just sounds incredibly English. I don't think you can tell where she is from.

Posh sounding to me, but my accent from somewhere else is pretty strong.

DS has a bit more of an accent. Probably not really local sounding, but more so that DD.

It's funny. My two go to the local Comp. Eldest dd(16) has always hung round with a group of kids who are similar to her. Quite geeky/nice. She and her friends are quite well spoken.
Dd2 (13) has quite good social skills and gets on with a wide range of kids. She's got a school accent and home accent. When talking about school she slips into her school accent. (I don't comment on it as it doesn't bother me.)
