Recommendations for touch-typing course?

My dd1 (9) wants to learn to touch-type. Presumably there are cd-rom based courses she could use to teach herself -- does anyone have any recommendations?

Would need to be Mac-compatible.

Thanks in advance!

I wouldn't get typing for dummies IMO as I got it for dh and it seemed to stop at some letters? Ds1 (6) had a go and could follow it ok but I didn't persue as there's no point if not all the letters are covered.

seriously senselang is the way to go - give it a try!

Thank you! Looks great, and saves having to send off for some over-priced CD-ROM!

Let us know how you get on Frogs ... ds1 told me he wanted to learn to touch-type, and we got some Mavis Beacon software, but once he realised learning would involve a fairly long, boring slog he wasn't interested and wouldn't apply himself. I'd love him to be able to type, as he loves composing stories, but doesn't enjoy handwriting iyswim.

I can also vouch for Popsy's link. It works well. And it has been the only way of consistently settling my Y9 class from hell at the start of the lesson. And they are learning a useful skill at the same time. You can either follow the exercises provided or enter your own text for children to type too.

I found a mac compatible typing program for my dh (a grown up, but being male has mental age of 9) and he seems to really like it. You can do a free 15 day trial and then you pay after that (it's not too expensive). It has little games and give you a score (dh loves that bit...men are soooo competitive...I try not to remind him that he will NEVER type as fast as I do).
Anyway, it's called 10 Thumbs and here's a link to it...typing tutor .

By the way, touch typing was one of the most useful classes I took in high school (apart from car mechanics)...I made lots of money at university typing other people's papers for them.
