Tiffin schools - which primary schools??

I'm wondering if someone can help me with some local knowledge?

I am looking to move to the Kingston area and am wondering which state primaries have good results in getting kids into the Tiffin boys' and girls' schools?

I know we'll need a tutor and they'll need to be very bright but I need to start somewhere!

I have 3 children aged 1, 2 and 5, and currently live in Surrey but regret leaving London. The move would be primarily to secure some options for secondary grammar schools.

@Trampoline - Grin - I think it depends on where you are - I am not in the village and yes it’s definitely got worse over the years - my DS1 in reception in 2010 and I’ve seen a massive change in type of families moving to the area

@JustJuice187 - that's been the case in most of the Wimbledon primaries for years. We used to live in South Wimbledon (DS1 now in year 1 of university) and his 'outstanding' primary school SAT results were in part due to a well known 11+ tutor.

I agree with @sandybayley, this is nothing new. In our (non-village) state school over half the kids in each class are sitting for Grammars, and most got through first stage. Tutoring is increasing though, definitely. But the families living here have been affluent professionals for a very long time - house prices dictate that.

JustJuice187 · 14/12/2020 14:13

I don’t want to specify where exactly I live but in recent years we have gone from teachers lawyers etc to merchant bankers - so I would say house prices have pushed a lot of people who would have been living more centrally further out.
In terms of our local state my older is now yr 10 and when he was there our year was not nearly as pushy as it is now. It’s pretty vicious now is my honest assessment: massive tutoring and the competitiveness is ridiculous. So I guess it must depend where you are - I’m back to 2010 for ds1

A lot of these families have one child and he is their prodigy - a completely different dynamic. How these kids don’t crack under the pressure I don’t know

He or she - sorry Blush

JustJuice187 · 14/12/2020 14:17

Teachers lawyers and of course others - sorry massive generalisation- what I meant was no bankers.

@JustJuice187 - no need to specify where you are but I can definitely say that when we lived in South Wimbledon (more Colliers Wood) there were plenty of bankers and partners in City law firms going back to 2003 when we first arrived. It's really not a new thing. DH is a banker and we always noted how many of his colleagues lived in the neighbourhood. Lots of them lived up the hill as well but plenty were in and around South Wimbledon.
