Are there any schools (State or Private) in East Sussex that are good with ADD children?

I have a 6 year old in the process of being diagnosed & not currently getting the support needed at current school.
We live near Heathfield BTW so can travel about 15-20 mile radius of there.
Thanks.

sorry to hear that.
you're senco not approachable or the teacher?

Elasticbandstand · 11/10/2007 14:37

do you have an ADD nurse or specialist, i don't spose they can advise, i don't spose they are allowed to, how about other children with ADD, if you know any, have you asked parents?

We have only just started the process of getting a diagnosis so havent spoken to anyone (except school & GP) about it yet. School are aware we are going for the diagnosis, but are less than helpful to say the least. Dd is currently having a terrible time there with some very intolerant pupils bullying her.

I am not sure if it is in East Sussex but have you tries Slindon college ,not sure at what age it starts, also Northease manor although i think this may be more dyslexics adn dyspraxia and also Newlands which is at Seaford

SparklePrincess · 11/10/2007 18:14

Thanks floaty. Just looked them up. Slindon is too far away & only takes boys anyway. Northease looks lovely, & dd does have a lot of trouble with putting her letters back to front still, dont know if she would be classed as Dyslexic though. Newlands looks nice, & fees are very reasonable too. But it would be 45 minutes each way not taking into account rush hour traffic, so possibly a little far, (unless we move again) especially as I have another child at school here. I might email them to see how they help ADD kids & ask if they have a school bus coming from this area.

i had heard Parkmead, upper or lower dicker, near hailsham, was good for special needs

SparklePrincess · 11/10/2007 18:45

I will look into that Ebs. Thanks. Its only just down the road a few miles too.
Our school has a good rep for special needs kids itself. Think the problem is they have so many with very obvious needs they dont have time to notice the ones with the not so obvious ones.

St Marys' in Crowborough has a good rep for SN, one of my DDs friends has a brother with Downs and they'd like him to go there if he can manage mainstream.

St Johns in Crowborough is also very good but is hopelessly oversubscribed.

I have friends with DCs at school in Buxted, Five Ashes, Mayfield and a faith school in Heathfield (v. close to Broad Oak I think but can't remember it's name). I'll ask their opinions and let you know.
