We are considering sending my son to Lochinver House School in Potters Bar and would appreciate any information about the school.
I would also welcome your experiences of boys prep schools espcially in a family with no girls!
We have also looked at Duncombe School and Heathmount in Hertford and are strongly considering Duncombe.
We have also looked at St Johns Prep in Potters Bar but have ruled it out. Thank You ..

Whoops!

I have also tried to CAT Paddycat but can't get through to you.

It so so nice to find people with such helpful information on here!

paddycat · 06/05/2008 14:10

Hi there, what the heck is this CAT thing? (sorry - techno-dolt. If only I had had a better education ...). If you can explain, I will do my best to help! Or post on here and I will try to be less cryptic! All the best ...

paddycat · 06/05/2008 14:15

PS reading scheme is Jolly Phonics as stated for learning the letters, then Oxford Reading Tree books ...

stressed2007 · 11/05/2008 22:27

paddycat CAT iss how I am able to send you a private message through mumsnet e.g. with contact details on so that I could maybe speak to you off line as you seem to have lots of info on this. Your profile needs to be set up to accept these messages though and I suspect you are not - if you change it I can send my contact details to you. Thanks Stessed

greenlawn · 12/05/2008 10:54

OK, so I have sorted the CAT thing hopefully, so you should be able to get through - though I have changed my name to greenlawn...

We are looking for a school for DS. Looked at LHS and really liked it. Very nice headmaster. Kids looked happy. However decided against it as our second is a girl and it will be difficult sending to 2 different schools. So are now looking at only mixed schools.

Visited Heath Mount. Very impressed. All kids seemed genuinely happy. Lots of focus on well-rounded education.

Also visited Westbrook Hay. Good school also.

Not seen Radlett Prep.

Have any of you visited these schools? What is your view. From what I read Radlett looks more academically inclined than rest.

MNersanonymous · 19/05/2008 22:49

Sorry Anna - those schools must be too far North for me as I've not really heard of them apart from Radlett.

Now I'm just hoping that LHS isn't too oversubscribed for ds's year as I so want him to get in!!

Resurrecting an old thread - am interested in these schools. Any thoughts on any of those mentioned would be welcome!

stressed2007 · 02/01/2010 21:03

just seeing where my DD may be going - are you looking for boys or girls preps? You must be pretty local to me.

thegrammerpolicesic · 02/01/2010 22:00

Boys - seen your other threads and you have a dd right?

Both
Where are you?
Generally Lochinver is very highly thought of.
Have a friend whose son is at Haileybury too.

thegrammerpolicesic · 02/01/2010 23:01

Would prefer a mixed school and there aren't many options locally.
Am in Hadley Wood area. What about you?

thegrammerpolicesic · 24/01/2010 18:40

Does anyone have a view on Manor Lodge?

CeciC · 24/01/2010 21:06

Hi,
My niece just started in Manor Lodge in September, and so far, my SIL is very happy with the school. I can't say a lot more about it. I think they are quite strict and they loose their "free time" or time to choose a activity if they don't do their reading at night or their homework. My SIL told me as well that from this term, they have little spelling test, but I might missunderstood about it. Personally I don't agree with homework this early in school and loosing housepoints if you don't do it, but my niece seems very happy with it.
I hope that helps

My friend sends her two girls to Duncombe and they absolutely love it. They are very happy, settled with excellent manners.

legalwannabe · 06/02/2010 18:47

Also, if you live in South Herts you may consider Hadley Wood Primary - it has a great reputation is is listed as Grade 1/ Outstanding by Ofsted.

stressed2007 · 08/02/2010 19:49

Don't think there is much chance of getting into Hadley Wood Primary unless you live very close to it. I understand it is a great school.

legalwannabe · 09/02/2010 13:34

stressed2007 - re. Hadley Wood Primary, I believe that they take from Cockfosters and Potters Bar too. I guess it depends on the number of siblings and applicants from the local area. Where are you based?

stressed2007 · 09/02/2010 20:37

It is not for me - my children have schools. I very very strongly doubt they have anyone from potters bar - it is far too far away for them to get in.

legalwannabe · 10/02/2010 13:12

stressed2007 - I happen to know of three families who got into Hadley Wood primary, who applied while living in Potters Bar, who didn't get in with an older sibling at the school. May be worthing mentioning it to your friend, who could perhaps contact the school.

I suppose the recession could mean that more families from the HW area will be sending their children to the local school rather than private schools such as Stormont and St John's, so intake from further afield could be limited. I guess the families I know were just very very lucky. Wish your friend good luck from me, it's a horrid situation to be in, x

msg below is a reply i posted to another message. Anyway, i think the lady who posted the originalmesage choose Lochinver for her son and he is doing great there. i went to look round an was very ipresssed though worried about distance for me from caterhatch lane there then back to work in town. Oh am i just lazy :-))))

To be honest now thinking of state CofE primary then aim for pivate secondary. Some great faith schools near me (st james, forty hill....).

Looking into schools also for 2011.
Loved Vita et Pax but recenly clicked that you have to bring lunch & I know that is not for me. My on doesnt eat much at all so I need a school that can offer him variety & where he can see other kids choosing what to eat.

Went round Lochinver. Loved it plus i have a friend with a son there and another going in soon.

Keble - yet to look around. What did you think of Keble ?

St John - yet to look around, though I heard its a love / hate thing. you either love or hate the head instantly :-)). A collegue loves the school (2 kids there). then again her kids didnt do jnr school. Know a member of staff in snr school who loves working there but secretly agrees that lots of parents find the jnr school head hard to take on (i think she is also owner)
