Travelling times / journey - independent schools

Hello,

My daughter is in a girls independent but I’m debating whether to move her next Sept.

How far do you travel daily to take your child in ? How many miles ? How long time wise to do a round trip ? Does it bug you the journey ?

She’s is a very local one but it’s too small (not enough kids to play hockey / netball in the year against each other ) and not very challenging as they seem to ramp up year 5....

The school itself is only 7.2 miles away 22 minutes in zero traffic but I don’t know if I’m crazy haha (note I have to drop the boys off at a different school with their times and carry on but it’s Guildford so can get grid locked ! )

I don’t know if I should bite the bullet and apply or wonder if it’s too much stress with traffic haha

It would be me driving here for 2 years then she can go on a train.

Thank you xxxx

Mine (10, Y6) walks the 5 minute stroll by himself. On the walk home he likes to stop for a chat with the others who live in town and also walk.

We briefly lived 5 miles away down quiet country roads and within 18 months I was pissed off even with that. Walking distance is a beautiful thing.

Is your DD happy, learning well and with friends?

Couid she do netball and hockey at clubs?

Yes she’s got friends and happy.
I could sport outside school however taking 4 kids to hr groups is hard work so prefer to do in school - and 16 in the year not much chance of a team 🤣🤣🤣🤣 as someone always sick / dr apt etc

X

It doesn't sound like you think the school is delivering. Why accept that? If you're close to Guildford, you have so many amazing schools to choose from!

A big question is whether you are looking for a through school for her, and if not then which senior schools are you targetting? (and will the prep help her get there? )

Think about the overall logistics. Would a school closer to the boys work better, even if it's further from your home? How close are both girls and boys schools to public transport? Although not sure whether you can consider the longer term logistics if both senior schools are still up in the air: presumably your boys are younger, since you only mention your DD going on public transport
