I know its a stupid thing to worry about, but it's ds1's first parents evening today.....AND IM SCARED SHITLESS!!! I don't know what to expect or what kind of things to ask. My mum never went to any of mine when I was little so I haven't even got them to go on!

I got a letter today about my dd's 1st parents evening!!! It's scary isn't it - it only seems five mins ago that they were babies.

No advice from me just ((hugs)) as I have the same feeling today.

its fine, dont worry they usually only praise their strengths and suggest things for improvement, nothing awful

I used to LOVE parents evening where you see all the things they've been doing - don't worry you'll enjoy it and you'll be proud as punch!

If you know the teacher well.....then this will be just an extension of conversations you have daily.

Usually with reception classes if you take/collect your child you get to know the teacher and she gets to know you too- so the parents evening is a lovely time to look at the pictures & writing that your child has done so far.

Also the teacher will have 'assessed' at what level your child is working to...Base Line....this is nothing to be scared about----looking at whether the child can write their name- how far they can count to- knowledge of colours ....and social skills.

Enjoy it!

It's ds1's first parents evening this week too. You'll have to let me know how yours goes tonight.

I can't wait till my daughter's first parent-teacher conference! I don't know how your son is, but it's next to impossible to get any information out of mine about what she did at school that day. So I'm really looking forward to talking with her teacher about how she's doing, her strengths and weaknesses and how she gets on with her friends.

Don't worry!

As others have said, it will be really low-key and positive Titania. If they have done your ds's baseline assessment yet they might say a few (constructive) things about it, but the best thing is definitely seeing all their work. Hilarious and touching.

I've only met the teacher once, and that was for a matter of seconds on his first day there....I can't get anything out of ds about what he has done at school.....I hope the teacher doesnt think that I'm not interested....cos I really don't know hardly anything about what ds does in the day. If I'm lucky he will tell me a little bit then the rest its 'oh I don't know' or 'I can't remember'

It'll be fine Titania, they usually just have a general chat about what they are doing, and if they have any particular strengths or weaknesses.

They will ask you if you have any questions or concerns too.
