Schools told not to tell parents if someone tests positive for Covid.

Hello everyone, this news bothers me big time. I hope it bothers you all.

I have this information directly from a global site and from a member of teaching staff in a Scottish Instition.

I cannot say say which one at the moment I do not have this information.

However this was apparently what happened in Whuhan.

No, I am not being a doommonger or anything else.

It seems that administrations of schools are being told not to pass this information on to parents. I find this very worrying.

Please google the title of this thread and see what you will find.

Good luck and safe to all .

We have been notified of a case in our school and parents were also told of a case at the local primary school.

slipperywhensparticus · 09/09/2020 21:11

In the uk?

JaniceBattersby · 09/09/2020 21:14

Utterly ludicrous, and totally false. Why would there have been a press conference tonight telling people to take more care and introducing stricter measures if the government wanted us to catch coronavirus? Spreading this kind of conspiracy bullshit is only going to make the situation worse.

myrtleWilson · 09/09/2020 21:15

what, pray tell, is a 'global site'? - www.davidickeforumforlizardspotters.com ?

Estrellente · 09/09/2020 21:17

You again Hmm

yeOldeTrout · 09/09/2020 21:17

I feel upset that all random parents are told, feels completely wrong to me. I hope OP is correct for sure. Nothing in the world is happening how I want it to today, though, so probably what others seem to want will be true, instead.

Considering schools around here are informing for positive tests, but not for "Johnny's off with a cough and we're waiting on test results" you're talking absolute shite.

Another one of the "we want schools closed" nutjobs I assume.

MinaMurray · 09/09/2020 21:25

This week, I’ve seen loads of posts on my Facebook feed about schools in my area and nearby areas with cases of coronavirus.

Most of the articles include pictures of letters from the schools in question which say that someone within the school has tested positive for coronavirus.

So, OP, I’m struggling to believe that what you’re saying is the official advice in the U.K.

I've had a message from dd's school telling me someone in her class has symptoms. No names, but since there's only 2 kids off that does narrow it down a lot.

My school has a few off for tests, which we haven't shared with parents yet. We will tell parents if any of them come back positive though.

What reasons would schools have for keeping positive cases secret? Do they want it to spread through the school? Are you imagining head teachers saying "that Mrs X with a serious medical condition is a right pain, let's kill her (or at least send her off sick for a while) by letting covid run riot".

Balls! Also in Scotland and have seen the NHS headed letter from school about a pupil testing positive and child then being told to isolate.

museumum · 09/09/2020 21:38

In Scotland test and protect will inform parents.
Schools might be used to pass information but should not decide for themselves who to tell and what to tell them - test and protect decide that based on all the evidence and all the professional knowledge of Public health Scotland and so far they’ve done an excellent job.

FinnyStory · 09/09/2020 21:43

What utter rot.

Phoenix76 · 09/09/2020 21:45

Quite the opposite here. The local news team was at my dd’s school because of their two coronavirus cases, I almost wish I didn’t know about it.

Chewbecca · 09/09/2020 21:47

If you have info direct from a site, how can you not know what that site is?

BlueJava · 09/09/2020 21:56

I'm sure things were hidden in Wuhan - but PRC is very different to the UK. I used to live in PRC for several years and there is a definite culture of hiding things there, but that's way different from the UK.

spanieleyes · 10/09/2020 20:02

Given that, following a positive result, the class/bubble would also need to isolate, how could you NOT let parents know 🤔

Aragog · 13/09/2020 10:24

Local sixth form is closed due to a positive case. Parents were told hence they knew to not send their kids in.

Local secondary has two positive cases - one in y8, one in y11. Both year groups told to stay home to isolate. All parents informed.

I know of 3 other schools in our city who have classes or year groups isolating due to a positive case in each school. Again this is known information, not hidden. Parents were informed.

We do not send out any identifying details however - just a standard 'there has been a positive case in your child's class/year" type one.
