GCSE level Maths - only up to a level 4??

Hi ... asking this as I've offered to help a friend's kid with their Maths. I'm not a teacher but have often taught others bits here and there from the age of 13, but not GCSE in recent years.

They are studying at art college and are being offered the exam where they can get up to Grade 4 - is this right? I thought it was 5?

Any advice gratefully received...

There are two tiers and Foundation goes up to Grade 5. Is it definitely GCSE?

Definitely GCSE ... yup, somehow has failed three times... I thought that was the case. Grade 5 I meant... I'll have another conversation tomorrow

Good luck with getting them through it!

There’s a good podcast about GCSE resit here: www.mrbartonmaths.com/blog/julia-smith-teaching-gcse-resit-and-the-5rs/ might have some handy resources.

It maybe functional skills Maths which is equivalent to a GCSE level 4. This is a common qualification to offer to someone who has failed the GCSE several times.
