Are there any Embley parents on here? We are considering it for our child for secondary school and would love to know what you think of it.
(I already posted on Secondary Ed but thought this might get more traffic.)

@Augustamina where is considered a better independent option locally? Did your DC go on to somewhere you prefer?
@Fleabagster did you make a decision? We are in a similar boat.

Hi I have quite a few years of experience of Embley. If you have a child that is a total conformist, no trouble, no issues, toes the line then Embley is a lovely school. Grades are okay and the children come out well rounded. However...if you have a child with any behaviour issues what so ever they are not nurturing, they are not compassionate and they don’t have the time or experience to deal with any issues. Children loved the old headmistress Kate but they’re not as keen on the new head. It was explained to me as “...he’s not interested in how we are he just wants to look like Eton”.

Hi there, I wondered how you got on in the end with your decision. We are currently based in NZ but returning to the UK next year and Embley is a consideration. Very difficult from so far away.

Is anyone on this thread able to tell me anything about The Gregg School?

PurdeytheDog · 05/05/2022 10:42

We are also looking at Embley as we have children in Y3 and Y2.

Any updates on this Embley thread?

My son passed the 11+ and ended up at the state grammar in Salisbury - no regrets and it’s wonderful not having to think about fees. He’s very happy there and he is challenged academically which is what he needs. Good luck with your school search!

Embley, Stroud or Sherborne house which primary school is good for Y5 and Y6.

senior school - Embley or King Edward’s school?

We are planning to move to Southampton. But local insight and any recommendations would be helpful. We are looking for schools that offer a well-rounded mix of extracurricular activities and strong academic programs.

Thanks a bunch!

My kids were at SH for two years and we moved them across to Embley as its getting quite competative to get in to senior school so we needed to get them in the prep for gauranteed entry.
SH is very academic and has a track record for getting grammar school entry adn scholarships. Kind Edwards, as I understand it lowered its entry level and many parents have jumped ship, especially from the feeder Stroud.
My kids felt pressured at SH. Up to 9pm doing homework all week. They are thriving at Emley and love every aspect of it - very games focused, which seems to playout in the classroom with the kids getting on well with eachother.
