Latymer or Henrietta Barnet?

Or neither which is the most likely outcome. However, we have to express a preference on our application form and the deadline looms. Anyone else been in this position and how did you decide? They will be one and two on our list of schools, but in which order? Does anyone know more about these schools than you get to see on their open days?

I knew a teacher at Latymer and he regularly invited me to their art exhinbitions - bloody good school, no hidden nasties if my friend was to be believed!

MarsLady · 03/10/2007 23:13

Depends if you want a mixed school or an all girls school.

I know people happy with both schools and their children are.

I think Latymer is a bit less rigid than HB, though I've been told that HB is more pastoral than it looks.

Sorry.......... that's all I know. DS1 didn't want Latymer. He wanted QE!

Wow, I went to clean my teeth and found 3 replies already! Dd probably favours mixed but I'm increasingly seeing attractions of single sex at secondary (she's at mixed state primary at the mo). We thought HB was v. friendly, perhaps because it's so small but dd very keen on sport so wonder if it will give her what she wants there. Latymer has just got great new sports hall. Both fantastic for music I believe. Travel to HB is much easier which from experience with our older one is really important once you're actually going to the school. VVVQV - you're v. clear on HB - can you say why?

I did think about putting DS through the Latymer tests last year, but I know some teachers in the area and what I was hearing I didn't like.

I have heard from one teacher that that the science lessons were chaos.
Also one poor boy who wasn't doing well in his English GSCE last year was actually asked to leave half way through the course so he wouldn't upset their GSCE results.

My son goes to Latymer. It's fab. My son's science lessons are not chaotic.

Bit confused. Do you mean Latymer in Hammersmith, or Latymer the Grammer School?

MarsLady · 04/10/2007 11:07

She means the grammar. N London.

nlondonmum · 04/10/2007 15:49

Hi Christwhisty. Do you mean Latymer in N.London or Latymer Upper?

Latymer in Edmonton
I heard from more than one source about the problems in one of science lessons. This was about a year ago, but that is the type of problem that could be temporary and easily solved.

But I did find it quite disturbing that they were more concerned about their results than a pupils welfare.
