None that I know of here, but we had some kind of cataclysm a few years ago where three local schools all went under over a couple of terms.

There's enough local demand to keep the others going.

They aren't charging London prices, so they've had a bit of interest from people who's state schools just sent out Bitesize links and things during the closure period.

I'm aware of Ashdown House and St Marys Shaftesbury.
Suspect there have been a handful more.

There was a thread about this a while back and I think there were about 10 in total. I think there’ll be more in the long run. Moreton Hall in Suffolk and York Minster are two I can think of.

vinoandbrie · 08/08/2020 15:05

Kingsmead on The Wirral.

Peaseblossom22 · 08/08/2020 16:53

Moreton Hall was nothing to do with Corona they announced at the end of the Xmas term that they were closing in July

ellie2201 · 08/08/2020 17:13

@Peaseblossom22 that’s not what I heard - I know quite a few of the teachers and parents. Unless they were all keeping it quiet? It was definitely in financial difficulty for years but Covid was the final nail.

We are local and it was definitely known about pre corona but obviously I don’t teach there

ellie2201 · 08/08/2020 17:21

Yes there were financial problems for years (I taught there for 6 years 😊) but it was such a wonderful place.

Juanmorebeer · 08/08/2020 17:26

A private school in Loughborough did. Grace something.

Effzeh · 09/08/2020 12:49

Park School in Yeovil.
Grace Dieu Manor in Leicestershire.

lilyboleyn · 09/08/2020 17:22

Grace Dieu wasn’t because of coronavirus.

extrappe · 10/08/2020 22:32

Yes, my dcs school went under. Although it is debatable whether it was due to Covid or the fact the Head was blistering rude to any parents who dared to query anything. Classes had been shrinking for a while. I'm sad for the teachers who were outstanding.

TES today reports that 25 schools have closed

25 - that's huge !

Wishing the best of luck to all parents and children at those schools :(

indieschoolfinito · 23/08/2020 19:14

My children's school has closed. It's been a nightmare. How have other schools handled their closure? I feel my school has not handled it well. They seem to have given lots of help/advice to parents sending children to the 'preferred' alternative school but not much to anyone else.

Fleabagster · 23/08/2020 19:40

I imagine the staff are under massive stress themselves trying to find new jobs etc. I don’t think there’s an ideal way of dealing with it but I do really feel for you and your children. Have you found somewhere new for September?

indieschoolfinito · 24/08/2020 14:23

Sadly, most of the staff at my children's school have not found new jobs. Its a family owned/run school. I have managed to find somewhere but its been difficult for everyone as most state schools are full round here (particularly early years) and we couldn't do any school tours/visits due to covid. Some families had been at the school less than a year and the closure had been planned for about this time, not due to covid/brexit.

If anyone else's school has closed, what has the procedure been? Have most people gone to the same school or has everyone scattered?
