Is anyone writing to their DCs school/s with concerns over the RSE curriculum?
Has anyone managed to get staff to engage positively and/or read their suggested materials eg from safe schools alliance?
I have seen a couple of threads from last month.
My DDs school only shared a little of their RSE plans with parents for the first time last week!Giving parents less than 2 weeks to complete a short questionnaire & email in with "questions".
They only shared their RSE policy last Thursday and are not being completely open or honest with parents regarding our rights to a proper consultation on the RSE policy.

Name changed for this so I have the option of discussing some things in further detail if necessary! Smile

Yes, I have been very forthright with school on this matter. There was a teacher parent forum in March pre-lockdown which had this on the agenda. The notes of the meeting have not yet been circulated to the parents (as is standard), despite my chasing.

I contacted school again and said that as the government had now confirmed that the bringing in of this curriculum can be pushed back to the summer term 2021, then I assumed that this is what school would be doing. Which it is. So that’s something. I will be taking it up again and pushing hard after the summer holidays.

My DDs school won't delay even though I pointed out that they haven't had a proper parental consultation on their RSE Policy yet.
They have had plenty of opportunities to be open with parents but are very defensive. They are trying to get away with as little parental involvement as possible.
@vinoandbrie do you know which external organisations your school has involved?

It's good you have more time now to examine content & compare it to the DfE guidelines etc and get more parents on board with you.

What exactly are your issues though?

I’m unsure which if any external authorities our school has involved.

I am very keen to ensure that no ‘trans toolkit’ goes anywhere near either of my children, and am pleased to see that more and more of these toolkits are being withdrawn by local authorities.

I am very grateful for the two term reprieve, as it will give schools more time to review and digest what they need to teach and which resources they will use. Crucially, it will also give schools time to proactively engage with parents.

I have read the school's RSE policy, Equality policy, the examples of lesson materials, Stonewall's guidance & their definitions of the terms they use, Stonewall's Home Learning Packs and reviews of Stonewall's materials and training, amongst other things. I have cross referenced this information with the DfE RSE Guidance (including the update on July 9th) and with some other relevant legal frameworks eg Education Act 1996 & the ECHR.
I have found that much of the RSE content on trans/gender identity topics are full of factually & scientifically incorrect information. They do not comply with all of the relevant legal requirements and they stray far beyond what is set out in the DfE guidelines. There are many safeguarding concerns, some of the proposed RSE structure is not age appropriate and some of the content is sexist and homophobic.
That's plenty to warrant a parental consultation which according to the DfE is expected. My DDs school have failed to have this consultation.
So, yes @SeasonFinale those are some of the issues.

I wasn't being goady I just enquired what the issue was. Yes if there are sexist and homophobic and other non inclusive teachings you should definitely be challenging them or indeed pulling yiur child out.
