Need help ... summer holidays - need to keep kids busy - music lessons?

Need to work over the summer and kids aren't being kept busy like they were during beginning of lockdown Confused

DS happy to just do computers all day, that's fine

Looking for things to keep my daughter busy though ... she loves the violin (she started just a couple of years ago) and she was doing really well with lessons before lockdown began. Lessons haven't been continued since start of COVID. She was going to do her grade 3 before Christmas but it's been postponed for now.

Anyone else in this / a similar position? What have you managed to find? There are loads of music teachers offering lessons online but I just don't know where to start; I'm not a musician so I'm a bit lost. I think she (and I) would prefer she had an actual teacher she could do Skype calls with or something, rather than just some videos on YouTube (which are free, sure, but not quite the same / as engaging ... plus I think she's watched most of them already!).

Do people do music classes for the day? Or is it just lessons / one-to-one stuff?

Can you get in contact with her current teacher to enquire about online lessons? My kids have continued with theirs using zoom throughout lockdown. Both school peri teachers and private.

Mine just have a weekly half hour as they did before and practise (some weeks more than others!) in between.

school teachers did but music didn't ... think they had their own kids to look after, all of a suddeen!

Definitely look for zoom violin lessons - your current teacher may have a friend they can recommend, or another parent. You could also look for online theory lessons, as that will help with general musicianship and it is another thing to keep her brain busy.

I'm sure that even if your teacher isn't still giving lessons you could fairly easily get a recommendation and then use Zoom/Teams etc. We've kept going with lessons even through the hols and I know that some of the musicians are really struggling as they've lost their freelance work so are grateful to pick up extra teaching. For us it's been one of the positives is lockdown - more music practice and good progress.

If you can't find a teacher, post back on here and I'm sure someone can find you one .

Try Trinity Laban. They are doing online music summer schools starting next week. You have missed the closed date but if you ask nicely I bet they could add you in.Wink

Also, you could look up the Benedetti Foundation virtual sessions..
