Has your DC's school(s) given any indication of what they are planning for September?

Our DC's school (private) has just done 'transition' presentations (on Zoom) for parents as they do each year to discuss the move up to the following year. They are behaving as though everything will be back to normal. We've been asked to fill in bookings (as usual) for clubs/extra curricular activities (some of which definitely couldn't be done at the moment based on social distancing rules). All clubs involve children from different classes and year groups mingling. They are promoting the school trips for next year, starting in September. They are preparing the children to move up in their normal class sizes. The usual glossy pics have been presented of happy children hugging each other as illustrations of what the school can offer etc etc. None of this seems real to me. They haven't even mentioned what contingency plans they have or are considering to prepare for disruption, lockdown, self-isolations of 'bubbles' if we're in bubbles etc (i.e. no mention of any home learning provision being planned). I am wondering if other schools are behaving like this too? I appreciate everything is very uncertain at the moment but it feels like they are ignoring the elephant in the room. What have you been told about provision for the next school year from your DC's school (s)?

No.
DD is going up to secondary and she will be meeting her new tutor and classmates next month. But only for an hour.
That's all I know for now.

Youngest is starting reception. They have planned transition mornings (if allowed) for 1st,2nd and 3rd before rest of the school comes back on the 4th we have a zoom with the teacher next week and video of the school and classroom. 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Eldest is going into third year of secondary and they have said they are hoping and planning to have them all back but waiting on guidance... she will be gutted if they don't go back.

Just posted this elsewhere
Inspiration Trust Schools in Easy Anglia opening two weeks early on August 18th and /hallelujah!- no more 'social distancing' nonsense as unworkable in secondary.

There's new school guidance due this week. I suspect that most schools won't comment until they know the government rules for Social Distancing in September

What has been said is full-time return of all pupils in September. That is not a blended scheme of part-time in school and part time on the internet unless they are going to completely change their minds again.

There will be a need for a level of work on the internet because there will still be pupils who are shielding and there will be pupils (and parents) who do not want to return to school.

Think everybody needs to wait and see what is said this week after which we will have a much better idea of the way forward.

They have written saying that they don't know what the government guidelines but outlining all the practical arrangements they are making in the event that they are able to be back in and what they are planning for exam year groups as much as possible given the lack of consistent government guidance in a rapidly changing situation when the government haven't got a clue what to do.

No news about September yet from the primary or the secondary school. Then again, we don't usually hear about new classes or teachers until sometime in July.

I think we're all just watching and waiting to see what the new guidance says.

State primary seems to think we will have a reception starters meeting at stsrt of sept in school for a parent each.!
Durely at least parents will be kept off site!?!

Ds Senior School. Private. Majority full boarding.
We have been told school opening as usual. Lessons socially distanced. School infrastructure to be used on social distance set up. Boarding house to be treated as a family bubble. No matches. Rugby postponed. Cricket to start with.

Bollss · 28/06/2020 21:55

DS will be starting reception in sept.

Weve got a "doorstep visit" in a week's time. How thats going to go I don't know.

An hour and a half on the first week back, half days the second week back and apparently ft from then on. No info about wrap around or anything.

Will ask teacher at "doorstep visit" because hopefully they'll have some more info by then.

He's ft at nursery at the mo so we'll go from having very straightforward days to possibly living a sodding nightmare.

Private secondary have suggested 2 options based on social distancing 2m some form blended...1m all in as have numbers/space... with extra hygiene .., anti bac gel and equipment management.. not clear on sports/transport.. government guidance due this week... don't really expect to know until nearer time.. have frozen fees for next term... they are more holistic than academic so lots of blurb about resilience and mental health so have been happy with approach so far....

Interesting, our school are keeping everything close to their chest! Does anyone know exaxtly when thenew guidelines come out this week? Our term ends on Thursday and Judging by past behaviour I am anticipating the school sending out full fees invoice for next term in anticipation of ‘normal’ school!

Don't think the Government have said when they are going to announce the plans this week, probably still writing them! You would think they will have various scenarios depending on the situation of the virus in September.

DuckALaurent · 29/06/2020 19:58

At my school we are ‘planning’ to return in September as normal. But with a caveat that, because the government advice is changing daily and tells us very little, it’s all we can do right now.

Plan for the best, prepare for the worst.

We are telling parents exactly what we know. That we hope it’ll be normal come September but we have no clue yet. That the situation is completely fluid and anything is possible depending on what the government come up with.

FWIW it’s often the case that the government announcements on Education rules are presented on TV on a Friday tea time and that’s the first we’ve heard of it. What parents don’t realise is that schools are being told pretty much nothing right now.

averysuitablegirl · 29/06/2020 22:58

We received an email from my dd's secondary saying that staff are planning for several eventualities as they don't know what will be required of them. Ranging between everyone back as usual to a mix of time in school and remote learning.

Fair enough really. Not sure what else they could realistically say at this point.
