Has your Year 12 child been invited back to school or college for any days before schools break up?

My DDs college isn't having them back before summer holidays officially begin. My colleagues son has been back a few days at his school 6th form. Educationally, it will probably make little difference now but it would do wonders for my DD's morale.

DH's school where he teaches doesn't have any pupils back either.

I'm curious to know what's the norm. Y12s back or not?

My niece has been invited back for 9 hours between now and the end of term, I'm not sure exactly how it works as she's turned it down

No. I'm quite frustrated as DS really needs some contact even if it's not teaching.

Also, just heard on the news that the money for schools doesn't apply to 16-19 so not to sixth form colleges.

not all all, disappointing

ThatDirection · 19/06/2020 12:08

Namechange That's appalling. DD's college has many students from disadvantaged homes and kids who will be the first in tertiary education let alone university or higher apprenticeships. Many will will need extra support.

At the dcs' school year 12 get one day a week from this week

sorayme · 19/06/2020 14:43

1.5 hrs total.

Mine is back for 2x2 hour lessons per week. One Physics and Maths/Further Maths combined.
Of Physics, she said she does much more working on her own at home as the teacher waffles. (Not saying that’s true, just her perspective.)
For Maths she found it harder as they’re so spaced out (not in a classroom) it’s harder to see the board. Advantage was being able to get immediate responses to questions rather than waiting for an email.

The sixth form college I work at has had 1/4 of the students in a day at a time - Mon and Tues this week and next. Then maybe to repeat that for the last two weeks of term if it's judged to be worthwhile (by staff and students). They've had an hour each for each subject and time with their tutor so 3-4 hours.

About 2/3 have turned up.

When I say a day a week, i think it's actually 2x2 hour sessions like the pp above.

DS year 12 is going back for 3 days (one day per A level subject) and DS year 10 is going back for 2 days. Same state grammar school.

Ds2 has two two-hour lessons or period of contact time anyway for each A level. So he had maths yesterday, biology on Monday, PE Thursday and then repeat.

That way they only have about 25-30 kids in st a time, and I think yr 10 in the afternoons.

As others say, it's a chance to raise any issues with the lockdown work, and see a few mates as well.

In the main I am very pleased with my DDs sixth form and how much teaching they've continued to do whilst the students have been home. I do wish she could go in before summer holidays begin, to interact with other people and to go over any difficulties she's had in deeper understanding of a few topics.

I don't think so, they were supposed to be going in for 1 2 1s but they seem to be online now. It might be that he gets to see his personal tutor and enrol for the second year face to face, but that's about it. He has had plenty of online contact for two of his subjects though and they haven't fallen significantly (or at all) behind.
