Schools in New York for dyslexic son

We are in the process of considering a move to New York. My oldest son (we have three kids aged 8,4 and 4 months) is dyslexic so we need to consider schools carefully. Our work will cover private schools in Manhattan and we had been looking at the British International School and the UN school. Does anyone have any experience of those schools or schools in general in Manhattan, particularly those which have a good reputation for supporting dyslexic children. There are specific dyslexia schools in Manhattan so if anybody has any thoughts or experience of those it would be great to hear about it too. Thanks!

Sorry I have no experience of schools over in NYC. However, we have family over in NY (suburbs of NYC) with a really dyslexic son. The support he receives in his state school is on par with what you'd get here at a private dyslexia school. NY schools are well funded and even more so the private ones in NYC. Fees for the day schools are comparable with UK boarding schools.
I would contact them to be honest. A lot of them are super academic and you have to get in. I would say that most of our maths and English support we've used on DD (severe dyscalculia and dyslexia) have been imported from America. They seem to be light years ahead of the UK system (state depending) in both research and implementation. This has just been our experience, I'm sure some wil disagree with me. I would personally look into the dyslexia school as a lot of the privates charge extra for learning support which work doesn't cover. He's going enough to bounce back into the English curriculum if you decide to come back. British schools in America don't have great reputations from what I've heard, but that might only be the DC one.

I attended UNIS way back in the day. Back then, there was little to no support. But now it has changed. It has a full and rich curriculum of academia and the arts. Its an amazing school and your child will love it. Contact the school and ask them about it.

Thanks @Malmontar. That is good to know. I will look at the dyslexia schools too.

Thanks also @nylon14. UNIS looks great. The diverse curriculum works well as my son definitely has real strengths in other areas and I want him to be able to find his 'thiing' . Otherwise it becomes all about the things he finds hard. I'm going to contact them today. It seems like they keep a few places open each year for people moving to the city so hoping there isn't a waiting list. I keep hearing how hard it is to get a place at a school in Manhattan so it is making me panic slightly!
