Anyone else's DC having to sit their CE exams at home in the next couple of weeks?

Why is your DC still having to take CE? All the Year 8s at my DCs' prep have been told that CE is cancelled and senior schools have agreed to honour conditional offers without it. This involves half-a-dozen or more day and boarding schools that usually require CE passes to confirm offers.

Year 8s at my DS's prep are still being made to do it.

Yes some Schools are going ahead even though it's now not necessary for the senior schools.. kind of puts a dampener on half term!

That's a shame. I was quite relieved when they cancelled ours - wasn't looking forward to keeping DS motivated through remote exams, especially as he has an unconditional place already and knew it wasn't strictly necessary to get him to his next school.

I hope CE goes well for your DCs, runrabbitrun123 and Notmynom

Yes I would be too..
Thanks Methren Smile

I know of one school where they are (and they've pushed it back by a week too - ostensibly to give the Y8s a half term but in reality to mean they have fewer weeks of online leavers' programme to fill!)

Ours is cancelled though. Senior Schools are happy to take our word for it that the children would have got their grades and have given them all unconditional places (makes you wonder what the point of CE is anyway tbh) It was our last year of CEs ever too, we're moving to PSB from Sept.

My own Y8 daughter was a little disappointed though. She's not a hugely enthusiastic genius or anything and she's going to stage school in Sept so doesn't need CE. But she has worked hard for it all year and would have preferred to have the closure of the actual exams. We're doing 'at home assessments' instead but they're open book and just for show/to keep the children busy really.

I think that's the reasoning behind it to give them closure as it's not really necessary, but my DC would have been more than happy without that.. and so would I Smile

My DS's school have cancelled CE.
I have to say as a full time working mum with a DS who needs a lot of support revising I was so relieved!!!!!
Have you contacted your child's next school to ask if they want them to actually do CE. The children in my DS's school are all off to too public schools and these schools have all given
Unconditional places .

Absolutely this. I would also 100% say that they are only sitting CE to fill another week too...

runrabbitrun123 · 22/05/2020 12:22

Yes as I understand it all children have an unconditional place at their senior school, it is our prep school who are moving forward with CE
