I am not familiar with private schools in woking. Planning to join my son in reception. Kindly advise which one is better? Understood recently GreenField has moved into new campus and lot of infrastructure is under construction.

Greenfields has indeed just moved to a new campus. I am not sure which school is considered “better”. All the preps in Woking are good. Have you considered St Andrew’s? They have excellent facilities and are also in Woking.

Ilovechoc12 · 29/05/2020 03:32

I think you need to visit them ....
I’ve got 2 boys in hoe - it’s very sporty and generally win , quite a big school, not that many girls (1/3 max)
I didn’t like st A head so we didn’t go there
We didn’t look at GF as in the old building there was no grass and my husband likes schools with grass haha

autisticgetoutclause · 30/05/2020 09:31

Ripley Court another option now owned by Reeds and a new head. Greenfield considered more nurturing than Hoe Bridge depends on your boy. Hoe Bridge better for sport.

I have kids are greenfield, pm me :)

crapholidayplanner · 31/05/2020 09:18

DC are at St Andrews, fairly traditional prep with amazing facilities and grounds. DC are very happy with there and highly recommend. There is a new headmaster is starting in September, we really like the head. As Ilovechoc said you need to visit all the schools. I'm going to have to namechange to Ilovechoc13 Grin best name

Looking to move DD to start in year 5 in September. As it will be year 5, also looking at schools that will go all the way through into senior, so that (hopefully) she only moves once. With that in mind, does anyone have any experience of Claremont Fan Court prep? Or has anyone else moved their child for year 5, and think that it wouldn’t be too much of an issue to move again for year 7? Thanks

Hi. I am trying to choose school for my daughter who will be year 1 this September. I am thinking about Hoe Bridge and Greenfield. Due to current situation, I could not visit schools. So it would be greatly appreciated if you could share your personal experience in Greenfield. Thank you.

Newdaynewname1 · 16/07/2020 19:06

@Gagk my kids are at Greenfield - the school is absolutely amazing, we love it. Pm me if you want more details.

Hello, thought we'd give some life to this thread again. We are about to submit out school preferences for reception for our 3yo son. We are also considering prvt options and we cannot seem to decide between greenfield and hoe bridge.
Would someone with more info be open to pm?
Or could someone provide more info on the acedemic orientation of both, help with kids in need or providing more for kids that seem to do better (obviously we dont know which category we will be in!), facilities (especially for the recently moved greenfield..
Some mentioned greenfield allowing almost 30 pupils in a class due to building issues... Way too many for prvt!.
We would really appreciate as much info as possible.
Many thanks and the best for the new year.

We would advise against Greenfields. The headmistress, Tania Botting is an unusual character; in our experience always paid more attention to the outward image of the school and we didnt think she showed as much concern for the children in the school once they were in and paying their fees. We found her unresponsive to parents concerns unless you were one of the 'in crowd'.
Many parents told us she simply ignored emails from them. She tends to surround herself with her outspoken cheerleaders from amongst the mums (all very mean girls-esque) and pays as little attention as possible to the more silent majority of the parents. Concerns about bullying at the school are largely ignored or denied, we know of 2 families at the school whose children were scared to go into school and refused to tell the parents why for 'fear of getting into trouble with the teacher' .... but the school just denied everything to both sets of parents .. i think they left in the end. We did know some parents who were happy there but if we had our time again we would have avoided the place especially as there are so many good options in Woking. There also seems to be quite a lot of politics between some of the teachers under the surface.

We know several families at Hoe bridge and St Andrews and haven't heard a bad word about either and both seem happy, supportive environments. Hoe bridge is larger and has more in the way of onsite facilities.

If you have bright kids they will do well academically in all 3 schools... i dont think there is much to separate them academically. If academic performance is the top priority, guildford high school/ Lanesborough in guildford worth looking at.

Hopeful201 · 10/01/2021 20:07

Woking22, I have never heard any of that and our experience of the school was fantastic. Greenfields was always nuturing and found something that every child felt good at-be it art, music, acting or academics. The headmistress is a strong character, she knew every childs name and shook their hand (probably not these days) every single morning. But she definitely looks out for her children.
I have heard a lot of negative things about Hoebridge (if your child isn't academic enough they are steered out).
I have heard good things about St Andrews, seems a good school with good academics and great facilities.

ErmieMum · 10/01/2021 20:43

I have 2 children at Hoe Bridge in the upper years who have been there right through from Nursery and I can't fault the school - one is academic and one not - One is sporty and one is creative - but both absolutely loving it and flourishing. The staff are brilliant and the teaching is excellent - agree it is seen as an academic school and standards are high but I know children of all abilities doing well there - I believe they get the best out of each child regardless of where they sit academically.

starlilly88 · 10/01/2021 23:48

I don't know much about Greenfield but not heard many positive reports of Hoebridge. It is academic and sporty but it's a win at all costs type of environment and I have been witness to many sports matches where parents have been less than well behaved. It depends on what your child is like. St Andrews has a different atmosphere, more inclusive with sport, very musical and academic. It also has some lovely grounds and new facilities, and a new head

starlilly88 · 11/01/2021 00:20

Feel like I've been a bit harsh on Hoebridge there, it is a good school that gets kids into the big indies, it really depends what you're looking for and what your child is like. Can only go on my own experiences and what previous parents have told me. Would say to go and look round but tricky at the moment.

rumi786 · 22/01/2021 16:59

Interesting thread with some fairly mixed reviews, if anyone would be kind enough to share their decisions on Greenfield or Hoebridge please let me know! Currently looking to send little boy to prep school and would be great to hear from parents sending their children to the above. Thanks!

lizzy789 · 16/03/2021 00:49

I was just looking into Greenfield for my daughter and read there is a link with the Scientology church.
Is that true?

rumi786 · 16/03/2021 07:21

A trusty search on Google shows the linked school over in East Sussex. Not Greenfield, Woking.

We are also planning to send our son to Greenfield and would love to hear any feedback.

Iamacatslave · 02/03/2022 20:49

Greenfield is no longer a nurturing school. The current headmistress is not an educator and more of a business woman.
