State schools in Richmond/Teddington/Kingston/Hampton area

Hi all we are planning to relocate from Ealing to the Richmond and around area and could use some insight into where is best for state schools (we have no faith so that rules out a few) for a 4 year boy - also considering good secondary schools. My husband wants in Bushy park next to the deers if that would be an option but houses can be quite expensive in some of the areas. We don't want a huge house, looking for a small 3 bed but good schools and also to be a nice place for cafes, shops, parks etc. Good commute into London is also a must. Have no idea where to start. Thank you

OP, start with secondary schools that are in catchment for you house price range with Orleans Park Secondary in St Margaret's being desirable but you need to live near by. Teddington secondary school is easier to get into, you can live a short distance away. Also look at the catchment for Turing House which is a free school currently spread over sites but will move into a permanent base eventually. All the primaries are good so don't worry about the next 2 years.

Don't know about schools as we left the area before that was an issue, but we used to live in Hampton Hill in a small 3 bed terrace. Our back garden backed onto Bushy Park. It was lovely to look out of our bedroom window to see deer wandering about (a bit noisy in rutting season though!)

It was a lovely area and we only moved away because we wanted somewhere bigger without increasing our mortgage. The local shops were fine, especially in Teddington, and for anything bigger, Kingston and Richmond were close by.

We had two train stations within walking distance: Fulwell, on the Shepperton line, and Teddington, on the same line, but also on a loop line. If there were train strikes we could also get into London by getting the bus to Richmond and the tube from there.

Pretty much all the schools in Richmond borough are at least good and many are excellent. Also worth looking at Kingston which also has good schools but may be a little less expensive.

If you want a fast train in to london then might be worth looking at twickenham as well as fast train takes 21 minutes to Waterloo. As previous posters have said, nearly all primary in borough are good but secondary is a bit more limited with Orleans in St Margaret’s/twickenham and grey court in Richmond being very good. Teddington school has a bad rep at the minute but it may all be rumours - my kids are at primary so only know what I hear on the local mums grapevine .

I live in Hampton Hill. It is a lovely area, a little cheaper and more laid back than Teddington and Twickenham as it's on a slower train line. Bushy Park is beautiful, Hampton Open Air Pool just up the road, and there are lovely local shops and cafes. Fulwell is our local station, where you can get direct trains to Waterloo via Twickenham/Richmond or via Kingston.

It's easy to get a seat, though many people switch to a standing-room-only fast train at Twickenham to cut 10-15 mins off the journey. Fulwell Station is also on the planned future route for Cross Rail 2, which will create a direct line to Tottenham Court Road etc though goodness knows if it will ever be built.

Carlisle Infants and Hampton Hill Junior School are the local primary schools snd have a very good reputation.

Depending on which end of HH you live in, secondary choices are Hampton High (Ofsted Good), Turing House (Good + Outstanding in 2 measures), Teddington (dipped to RI at last inspection but signs are it'll return to Good soon), Waldegrave (Outstanding, girls only, v tight catchment), Twickenham School (RI but on its way up). There are also the Tiffin super-selective grammars in Kingston if that's of interest.

Hello,
I have moved to Kew, Richmond and am looking for a good state school for my 9 year old daughter.

I would be grateful for any recommendations,

Thank you in advance xx

You might want to start your own thread, maybe in Local. All the state schools in Kew and North Sheen are excellent.
