Work given from schools during lockdown.

Has anyone had anything from their schools with regards to hone learning?
Out school has put a list of third party apps on their website. Apart from that, nothing.

Surely there was a plan for what happens if this happens? Surely if a pupil has bad health and has to stay off school for a long period then work can be arranged for them to do in line with their stage of learning.

A teacher friend of mine says their school has only 7% of pupils currently attending. The other teachers are being paid to work from home. But doing what? They should be sorting out what the kids at home are missing out on.

You need to email your school and ask Hmm

EvilTwins · 15/04/2020 22:25

It’s the Easter Holidays. Term starts on Monday. Save your moaning til then.

PhysaliaPhysalis · 15/04/2020 22:25

And perhaps read the five million other threads that tell you what teachers are doing.

HTH

KrakowDawn · 15/04/2020 22:26

Erm...there have only been about 300 threads about this this week...
Maybe ask your school?

KrakowDawn · 15/04/2020 22:27

Haha physalia!
I guess you're just as hacked off with the threads as I am?

CalleighDoodle · 15/04/2020 22:27

But doing what? Hmm Really? Really?

The third party websites will most likely have tasks on for your child to do. Have you sat down with your child and gone on to all these sites and done the tasks?

PhysaliaPhysalis · 15/04/2020 22:28

Yes, I am, Krakow!

Primary child is using google classroom and my maths. For the 2 weeks before Easter hols they were assigned work for the different lessons - literacy, maths, humanities, performing arts, science, art etc. There was a general class chat and then chat on the different subjects plus you could private message teacher. Work was uploaded once complete and handed in. Teacher gave a comments back.
They sent over a list of useful websites, ideas for PE, and encouraged to do things like cooking, gardening etc and upload pics to the class chat for everyone to see.

Secondary age kids (year 7/8) are using Microsoft teams - again with each subject setting assignments and using a maths website also.
They also sent home a detailed chart of all subjects, what’s expected for each one, useful websites, and again encouraging them to do cooking etc and upload photos.

Wow, sounds like your school is actually organised!

Have they provided specific tasks on the apps? I would have thought u would b provided with something substantial. We got huge bundle of paper work. I think it's about the same quantity as normal day in school and homework. Our teachers certainly expecting kids to work as normal but under parents supervision. I'm in a very fortunate position that I am stay at home parent and plenty of time to teach them. Genuinely dont know how working parents can get time to do this with kids.

DD2 was being given Google Classroom work for all lessons. She's already been sent her English work for this week tonight in preparation for tomorrow.

Not even the government had a plan.

Term for us starts today. Easter is a scheduled break that lots of teachers and school staff worked through.

If you don't have anything set today ask your school.

Well, that's an own goal from the teachers isn't it? Posting flowers on a four day old post and bumping it back into active convos.

My children’s school have been amazing. The work is set the night before, teachers available to message or they often send a video. Feedback is given on the work the kids have sent in.

The head teacher is still doing a weekly assembly to keep spirits up. I know some schools have a problem but I’m really proud of ours.

Popcornriver · 20/04/2020 13:49

Yes they both have work assigned from school. Before the Easter holiday I printed my primary school child a pack provided by her teacher. Now the work is assigned through the school app. Eldest is getting work from secondary school online. I've been on contact with both schools and they've both been brilliant

feesh · 20/04/2020 13:49

My primary school aged kids are at a British school overseas, and their teachers were told not to take any time off over Easter, but to instead spend the time planning online teaching. It's been going very well so far (we have slightly different holidays to the UK). All their lessons, including art, PE, computing, French etc are being delivered online.

I know it is a bit sucky for the teachers to have their holidays cancelled, but to be honest that has happened to most people I know in corporate jobs at some point or another, and has happened to many people (in sod far as they have had to cancel holidays) as a result of this crisis anyway.

My DD's are posting work online, DS's school have sent him home with work and post a timetable online.
