We are soon moving to England from Scotland and, due to the different age starting dates between the two countries, DC will be jumping years and entering Y7 and Y9.

I've got hold of some CGP books to get to grips with the National Curriculum for maths and English but would like to know what books your Y6 and Y8s have been reading this year to try and get them up to speed.

Both of mine are good readers - in class they are/have been on the higher reading tables - but are reluctant readers. We have a lot of books on the shelves here but I want to pitch it right.

In year 6 my dc read: (they had to try and read a specific number of books a term off of the recommended reading list)
Holes by Louis Sachar
Wonder by RJ Palacio
Goodnight Mr Tom by Michelle Magorian
The London Eye Mystery by Siobhan Dowd
Flour Babies by Anne Fine
I think they would have read more but those are the ones I remember

Year 8 reading included quite a few books off a list similar to this one I found online

all the best x

That's really helpful, thanks both.

We've got some of the ones on your lists, superpower1, so I'll get those out.

The 13 treasures
Cogheart
Holes
Diary of Anne Frank
Northern Lights
Journey to Joburg
Wallace and Gromit Cracking Contraptions
Beowulf
I've used these with my y6 class this year. Some as class readers, some as guided reading and some for teaching examples (Anne Frank for diary writing, cracking contraptions for DT/writing project)
