Back to school on Monday - me not the kids - trying not to think about it!

I hate the feeling just before we go back: I'll be fine once I'm back into the swing of things, but I'm dreading it right now, and trying not to think about it.

We have had such a superb, fantastic summer in every way: and part of me would seriously like to pull the kids out, forget working/saving to pay school fees for secondary, and all do home-schooling instead.

I know the feeling. I have been in all week painting and scrubbing my classroom. I was meant to go in this morning finish moving the furniture and moving everything from the old room to the new but have had a lazy morning. I too have loved summer at home but back to the real world. I was thinking this morning that my life would be so much calmer if i had stayed part time or a main scale teacher but we too have school fees to pay.

You have to paint your classroom twinset????

Does the school at least pay for the paint?

I'm back on Monday too. I received my timetable in the post today, so now it seems real.

How many weeks till half-term?

back on monday too - kids aren't til wednesday, so doing the childcare juggle! Have a shiny new classroom to go back to hurrah! only it's not finished yet boo! Will be by weds they say, all folders and resources in the corridor waiting. Not much planning done as yet either, but things have a habit of working out don't they? SOme of my best lessons have had an air of sponteneity, so to speak!

twinsetandpearls · 01/09/2007 13:16

RustyBear · 01/09/2007 13:21

I'm not a teacher Christy, I'm a cover supervisor. So I don't/can't do planning. It's very much a think-on-your-feet job, and often I don't know what I'll be delivering when I walk into the classroom for each lesson, let alone in the morning when I wake up. This has its pros and cons as you can imagine!

I am going to be doing either 3 or 6 hours a week literacy boosters this year, which I'm looking forward to, just to have some continuity and control.

And I'm also applying for HLTA status, so I'll have lots of paperwork to sort out in the evenings.

I'm back to work on Monday too, the kids don't go back until Wednesday, lucky them.

I just passed my HLTA Roisin

i KNEW I SHOULD HAVE LOGGED ON EARLIER.Poor DH just listens as I state my case for being a SAHM and points out this happens each holidays. DD is now 13 months and we've had a fab summer together. Went into work this week to discover they still haven't finished my toilets (i'm going into nursery this year!) they may not finish them till Thursday!! Not sure what will happen.

I'm back Monday too ... and ds starts in reception (different school, I'm in secondary) on Tuesday - so it's a big week for both of us!

but ...

I finish on Friday to go on Maternity leave - and I'm not teaching at all next week as my maternity cover starts on Monday - I'm on departmental admin all next week .... it's absolute bliss - usually I would have had to do it all during the holiday

so, for once, I'm looking forward to going back!

and yes, I am feeling a bit smug

roisin · 01/09/2007 14:57

congrats kid! Are you in primary or secondary?
Any hints or tips for HLTA?

I'm back on Wednesday.
I'm starting three days after having a baby. I went back for three weeks in july - to get the holiday pay, which was very easy work.
Now I am taking on a new role and have done no planning whatsoever!

kid · 01/09/2007 16:54

Roisin - I am in Primary. My best advice for HLTA would be not to leave it all until the last weekend
You need to be very organised, be very thorough with your written tasks and gather evidence as you go along.

Have you started it yet?
I have my completed portfolio should you wish to borrow it, providing you are local(ish)
