Dear All, we spoke just over 5 yrs ago regarding my DS gaining a place at ETON as a KS. He has completed his journey and it has been fantastic. Thank you all for all the advise I was given.

I must admit, I've totally forgotten what you wrote 5 years ago and so I did a search just to find how amazing it is that 5 years just zoomed by when you're at Eton. I've said more times than I can remember to new parents and boys alike that the 5 years at Eton will be one of the very best times in a boy's life. And OP, please remember that your son's "journey" did not finish at Eton; rather Eton had thoroughly prepared him for the very difficult journey that now lies ahead of him. Would be good to know which direction of the journey is your son now headed towards but I'd totally understand if you preferred not to say. The very best wishes to him all the same!

Oh gosh - has the time gone so quickly?!

Prompted by peteneras’s post I also took a look at the archives. How I miss the friendliness of those old threads. So many beloved former names, so much wise and detailed advice.

Glad to hear it all went well OP!

Nonsense, @peteneras. I’m sure an someone about to become an Old Etonian has many happier times to come, fucking up the country and telling less privileged people they lack common sense in obeying the advice of the emergency services. Hmm

Thabks @Gallivespian for perfectly illustrating @SurpriseSparDay 's point. And thanks OP for coming back to update. Glad it went well for you all.

Your DS is fortunate to have left before this academic year chimera1. Fabulous education but now is not the easiest time to step out into the world bearing the OE label.

Hello Peteneras, thank you for your reply. He has gone to Oxford to study PPE. He is loving his time there, and is just thinking about having as much fun as possible.

Dear Airat,

I think Yr 3 is age 7+. Firstly, I would advise visiting a few schools which may fit your son. Eton is a Boarding school and you and your son should be aware of this. Admission advise can be found on the Eton Website or by calling the school. Just to recap on our experience. The application for Eton has to be made before he is age 10. However this was 8 years ago and the it may have changed. He was invited for a computer test followed by a short 15 minutes interview. The interview was about his schools and sports nothing to difficult and the test was basically verbal and non-verbal reasoning. After the test you and placed into the following groups, A - Offered a Place, B - On the Waiting list, and C - Not offered a place. My son was given a B place, however this was later changed to an A place some two years later.

How to prepare.
There are two routes: Common Entrance and The Kings Scholarship. I am not sure how to advise you but I tell you what we did, which may not be suitable for your son.

Lots of reading, visiting the Theatres, Museums and talking about current affairs. I did not want to repeat what the schools were doing so we chose to get his thinking beyond the normal curriculum. I hope this helps but do let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.

Good luck.
