Florence Nightingale
Louis Braille
Mary Seacole???

I've looked on the net but they seem to be very adult focused. TIA xxx

A bit older perhaps but the work card about Helen Keller still lodges in my brain.

carla · 26/09/2004 23:25

Thanks, yoyo, but where's that?

I remember reading Anne Frank when I was in Junior school I think. Though it is a harrowing story. Also remember reading One flew over the cuckoo's nest in my 1st year at senior school. I'm sure this would be viewed as inappropriate material these days.

I read Helen Keller when I was about 9, probably would have read it sooner had we not lived abroad ...not good access to books!! I think it's a great biography. Other than that, the closest thing I can think of is some of the charles dickens things, they are sort of autobiographical...but not in an obvious way.

Thanks so much, but she's studying those three people this term, and I thought it would be helpful to her if she had a clue beforehand.

It's a long time since I was in primary school but if you google Helen Keller you will find lots of info (at thet age some brief facts are usually suffice). Good luck (and with fond memories).

Florence Nightingale for young children

tigermoth · 27/09/2004 07:19

whenever my son has this sort of homework, I type 'facts about name/subject' into google, rather then just the name or subject. If no luck then try 'simple facts'. This method usually throws up simple descriptions and fact sheets more suitable for younger children. Don't kow if you have tried this, but worth a go if not.

Will an autobiography be acceptable? If so, how about "Boy" and "Going Solo" by Roald Dahl?

popsycal · 27/09/2004 09:23

waterstones have lots of child friendly biographies....

Carla, Usborne have JUST published a biography of Florence Nightingale here
I really rate their non-fiction.
