Scottish GCSEs

Can anyone out there in Scotland tell me what a "1.5" result for a Scottish GCSE means? A friend has left a message to say that her DD got this for her Greek GCSE (no idea why the school put her in for the Scottish board) and I feel really stupid as I don't know whether I should congratulate or commiserate

OK so what would be their equvalant to GCSE? and is 1.5 good or bad please?

they have standard grades........which when I did them didn't do ".5's" - it was just 1 (a), 2 (b) 3 (c) etc etc.

I've never heard of 1.5 either- all letters last time I looked.

i dont understand either - i thought standard grades were all A, B, C etc

no standard grades are "numbered". There's 3 stages you can sit (or you can sit 2) - Credit you can only get a 1/2, General (I think IIRC) 3/4 are the highest you can get and Foundation (again IIRC) 5/6 highest you can get.

So if you sit the Foundation the highest mark you could come out with is a 5 (if that makes any sense).

I was the first year to sit Standard Grades, and they were a nightmare - none of the teachers really had a clue about coursework, and didn't really approve of it anyway.

I don't understand this- my stepchildren only got As and Bs 10 years ago or so, and I haven't come across numbers at ds's school now. Maybe I'm missing something.

I got numbers back in 1986...

Tamum - was that at "GSCE" age - or were they doing CSYS's or Higher Grades?? (A/AS level age) They both have the "normal" A,B system

I did my Standard Grades about 12yrs ago (something like that ) and they were already "standard" AFAIK in Scottish Schools (unless they went private and did GSCE's anyhow )

I sat my "o" grades in 1986 & they too were numbered. I have a feeling we were among the first to have this?
BTW sound like she did well...my ancient greek o grade result was a 4

No, it was definitely standard grade, QoQ, but my brain is so addled that I have probably mixed it up with remembering their CSYS results .

only Maths and English were available to start with, so I have a mixture of S Grades with numbers and O Grades with letters
