Morning all. Any SJB parents live in Ascot? What's the drive like to SJB in the morning? Google Maps tells me 17 mins but I'm wondering about traffic etc. thanks.

Hopeful bump. Not many SJB parents on Mumsnet I fear?!

I'm not a parent at SJB but I do the opposite school run from Windsor down to Ascot and back. If you time it wrong you can sit in traffic for 30 mins easily, especially if it's raining. 17 mins is about right if I am coming back at 7.45... if I'm a bit late and I leave Ascot at 8.15 i might not get back until 9am.

My neighbours' kids go there, but they are commuting from our side of the great park so not much help to you on the school run side of things!

Thanks that's good to know. I'll have to do some practice runs.

@Xiaoxiong sorry to bother you again but are your neighbours happy with SJB as far as you know? I'm not getting much feedback from here and don't know anyone there as yet.
Weighing up between SjB and Papplewick. Thanks :)

If it's between SJB and Papplewick two main questions: are you RC and/or comfortable with the Church's teachings? Do you want your son to board as all have to from the summer of Y6.

legoninjago1 · 30/10/2019 07:10

Hi @Jossina We are RC but not good ones! I didn't get the impression it was forced down their throats at SJB. More that it's a general ethos, which I quite like. Papplewick also has a Christian ethos with chapel services etc. it doesn't matter to me whether it's Cof E or RC but I'm happy that they'd be exposed to some of this daily ethos.
I don't particularly want them boarding but at the same time, my oldest will be almost 12 at the end of year 6 as is is Sept birthday and I'd hope it would be something they'd enjoy if they'd been at the school from the beginning and were happy and involved there. Ultimately though if they were miserable with it, I'd take them out. I'm really torn.

Are you planning on a boarding secondary school?

legoninjago1 · 02/11/2019 07:22

Hi Jossina. We are open but yes, most likely aiming for somewhere like Wellington assuming they're cut out for some boarding. But Wellington also offers day. I'm not going to stick rigidly to anything that doesn't make them happy.
