Moving back to London and wondering if there are any schools for girls or co-educational that are similar to Sussex House.

Of the many independent schools which are strongest in humanities, drama, classics etc ?

Feedback appreciated.

Which bit of London do you want to be in?

And how close is your DD to secondary transfer age?

Orsman48 · 10/09/2019 10:23

Hi AnotherNewt

I have an 7 year old boy
a 5 year old girl
and a 3 year old girl

looking into schools for 2020 school year and beyond

We have a home in bloomsbury and don't mind commuting for the right school

Bute House (Girls)
Trevor Roberts mixed?

Orsman48 · 10/09/2019 19:44

Yes Trevor-Roberts sounds on paper very interesting. If one has not 'registered' at birth is it impossible for application to be considered ?

Bute House is very different from Sussex House. It is academically very strong and has high standards but it is not traditional or old fashioned like Sussex House. No classics.

The humanities and drama there are excellent though. But so are all the other subjects! Just a bit more modern and it has a non-competitive ethos which is hugely different from the more old fashioned traditional preps. No ranking, grading etc until 11+ preparations.

Others to consider: Kensington Prep, Latymer Prep (7+), Pembridge/Glendower/Falkner

For a more traditional prep try Hill House, Norland Place, Broomwood Hall (Clapham)

What do you mean similar to Sussex House? Do you mean is a feeder to the girls' equivalent of Eton, because that's what SH is famous for

Orsman48 · 12/09/2019 09:48

Thank you ForeverJudyBlume

No I'm less or rather not at all concerned by if a school is a feeder to a school such as Eton (actually would definitely not send son to Eton!) . I was thinking more about the character of it the school. The educational offerings and atmosphere .. Sussex House is a bit more eccentric, drama, classics, the creative and artistic aspects of education are more cultivated and pursued then a place such as Weatherby's

Its a different type of boy and family ..

So was wondering if there is a co-ed or girls school equivalent of that..
