Deregistering from year 6 - will it affect going back in year 7?

Dd (10) has been offered the chance to go on tour with a theatre type production from March next year but I'm trying to work out how to balance school and rehearsals.

She's year 6, secondary applications are in October and we should know by March if she's got a place at her preferred secondary ( has 2 siblings already at the secondary so should get a place easily)

My question is that it's her SAT year and her primary will not be supportive of her missing school in the run up to May. In fact I fully expect them to refuse permission for her to be absent.

Would I be able to deregister her and home school for the summer term and then she take her place up in September at secondary? Or will it affect her place if she's not registered with a primary? And come to that will it matter if she doesn't sit her SATs? I know the secondary will do CAT tests in the autumn term and I'm not worried if she doesn't do SATs.

Don't want to jeopardise her place but also I would love her to be able to take the opportunity she's being offered.

Will the touring company provide tuition and chaperones? If so she will be educated offsite for the duration. Sometimes they are only needed for a week or two on rotation returning home/to school in between. Private schools rarely do sats so should not affect her secondary choice.

I haven't got the final details of it all yet - just had a phonecall to say they were impressed with her and wanted her in the show - basically they were sounding out if she would be interested and if we parents would be happy. I'm getting the full details later in the week and I have a meeting on Friday with the organisers to go through everything.

My main concern is school not authorising education off site and refusing to let her go which is why I was looking into taking her out completely. She did panto last year and school were happy to let her have the time off for rehearsals and performances but it was mentioned that if she had been in year 6 they wouldn't have let her do it due to her SATs. Indeed we were advised not to let her even audition for panto this year as it would be too disruptive for her education. (She did audition but didn't make the final cut)

We certainly weren't expecting her to be offered this!

It will have no impact, once her place at secondary is allocated there are very few grounds on which it can be removed (essentially if an error was made and corrected quickly, or you had provided false information).

Home educating for Summer Term won't make any difference.

She will most likely need a child work licence. The school needs to sign this and the LEA approve it. The company should provide her with a tutor whilst she's working and her hours are restricted to what's on the license. Alternatively you deregister her and homeschool her in which case you don't need the school to sign anything. Check with you lea if you need a license though I think you probably do. This has absolutely no bearing on secondary school applications and she will be treated as any other child.
I think you will feel much more informed once you meet with these people, they will definitely have dealt with this before.

Also congrats to her, that is an amazing achievement and one she surely won't forget, it'll make her confidence sky high for secondary!

The school cannot refuse unless they can demonstrate that her education will be seriously compromised - as long as her attendance is good and she's not massively behind then the council won't allow them just to say they don't fancy her doing this. Children working professionally are considered to be educated off site and have a code that authorises absence in a way that doesn't count against the school - they are also tutored while working so education isn't missed.

Lots of tours are also used to working around SATS and giving Y6 children a schedue that incorporates this.

Hope she has a great time!
