I think Level 2 is GCSE equivalent, Level 3 is more at A Level standard

spacemonkey · 21/09/2004 09:34

That sounded a bit vague didn't it

I don't know if there is an official comparison (nvq 2 = x number of GCSEs), but it's definitely GCSE standard, not A level

fio2 · 21/09/2004 09:37

thanks spacemonket that helps honest!

I have just realised it say level 2/3 ! so it must be somewhere in the middle??!

fio2 · 21/09/2004 09:39

these are the courses

I have just realised they are city and guilds not nvq! It was nvq on the mid kent site. i am losing the plot today. I am looking at the last course on the list. What do you think?

you're not going mad, it says it's roughly equiv to an nvq level 2 which is pretty basic - looks like a foundation course type thing to me leading you on to the professional level quals

melsy is an interior designer i think

fio2 · 21/09/2004 09:53

oh balls i wanted to do something that was more a level equivalent tbh. I am not actually wanting to be an interior designer just want to get back into education and DO something iykwim and this was the only thing that appealed!

i bet you could get straight onto the BTEC course fio without having to fiddle around with this foundation one

spacemonkey · 21/09/2004 09:54

what about an Access course? that would leave your options open and get you back into the whole education thing?

fio2 · 21/09/2004 09:55

they dont do the higher one, i will have to ring and see an adviser I think! It has been a looooong time since I was at college feels really weird but I have to do something before my head explodes!

OP posts:
fio2 · 21/09/2004 09:55

what an access course sm?

OP posts:
spacemonkey · 21/09/2004 09:57

it's a course you do to get into university instead of doing A Levels, covers study skills and a broad subject area (eg humanities, visual arts, science) - most colleges offer them i think

fio2 · 21/09/2004 10:15

thanks spacemonkey. i am going in tommorrow now for some advice so i will see what they can offer me! it is all very scarey again!

really exciting fio, am - good luck tomorrow

fio2 · 21/09/2004 10:20

aww dont be envious. i just thought seeing as i get my courses free I may aswell do something instead of sitting around all day (ok I dont sit around but ykwim) also it just feels easier to do this instead of going straight back into work which quite honestly scares me!
