Oxbridge Tutoring

Hi, does anyone have experience of a good tutor for Oxford applications? My DD is Year 12 at state school in west london and setting her sights on Biology at Oxford. No support provided at school, would love someone to work with her over the summer

A tutor for what? If her subject knowledge isn't brilliant now she isn't Oxbridge material. There's nothing else a tutor can offer. Read their website, find out what the process is, any extra exams she needs to do, read around the subject, apply by deadline.

I just looked at the Oxford University website and it says there is no admissions test for Biology.

What work are you hoping the tutor will do with her?

Use all the support available on the website and don't waste time & money with tutoring. A tutor won't be able to help with the initial application & predicted grades. If they are lucky enough to get to interview, you need to be able to think on your feet, not recite rehearsed answers.

Thanks darlingtonhouse. Good to hear. I suppose I was really asking if anyone could recommend a good Biology tutor to support her through the entrance process

Is she about to start year 12 or moving into year 13?

Apple57 · 27/07/2019 15:08

She is about to move into Year 13 so is doing her personal statement over the summer

I'll stick with my original post then. The Oxford website has loads of information about the application process and their expectations for the personal statement (which carries less weight than with other universities). A personal statement should be just that, personal. It is too late for a tutor to help her improve her predicted grades, if it is possible to improve them. If there are no admissions tests, I doubt if there is anything a tutor would be able to do to help.

I think this might help Link Colleges. Every area of the country has certain "Link Colleges" if your DD contacted the college for her area asking to be put in touch with a Biology student - they might well be able to help her get in touch with a present student who could give her advice. It doesn't matter that this may not be a college which she is going to apply to.
This Youtube channel may be of help, especially if she is a BAME student www.youtube.com/channel/UC0a0jgB33-HHcAm84UFfPgw
