Fines for Term Time unauthorised absence (holiday)

Holiday isn't booked yet but pretty much decided it will also involve time out of school. The term-time reason isn't financial but I understand that it's very unlikely a holiday will be approved.

I have 4 DC so I realise it's per parent with PR(2), per child. My LA's policy says each PCN is £60 per child per parent (if paid within 21 days, then it rises) and that they can issue 2 PCNs per child per year.

We are going away for 3 weeks, plan was for 1 week before Easter holidays then 2 weeks in school holidays. But with flights etc it would seem likely it would be 1 week before Easter than a couple of school days after (so back to school on the Weds, rather than Monday). Would the absence be counted as continuous and one fine per child per parent, or do you think we'd get fined for the absence before the school holiday and then another one for the couple of days after?

As DS3 misses the pm session it's coded on register as C which is "other authorised circumstances" and the correct code for it. So it is authorised, but does impact on his overall attendance %.

My LA will issue up to 2 per parent per child per year, after that it's legal action. So they could potentially issue total of £960 and also start proceedings against us.

Number of penalty notices which can be issued for truancy/unauthorised absence

Discretion will be used to enable up to two penalty notices to be issued to each parent for each child within a twelve month period. If the law continues to be broken around school attendance the Missing Education and Child Employment Service legal intervention process will be used

I have seen some figures showing huge increase in fines issued but can't seem to find it again. Fairly sure was around the £60 per fine too.

Thank you DobbinsVeil
we're home and exhausted with an absolute ton of washing! It was definitely worth it though.

I beleive the fact that your ds being on a reduced timetable will actually help sign your request rather than it be an issue.
He clearly is overwhelmed and is not coping so a holiday would definitely not only benefit him but would likely improve his anxieties?
That's the route I would go down to be honest.

Good luck whateber you decide to do Flowers

I know you are concentrating on the fine aspect of the holiday but Disney world magic Kingdom average attendance is 60,000 people a day!

And Easter is one of the most busiest times at Disney, so more people attend than that.

I am in Florida right now at Universal. We have done Florida in April, May, end of August and now July/August due to GCSE results.

It is hot, often humid and always crowded. That is both Disney and Universal. Have a look on YouTube for rope drop crowds at Magic Kingdom. Especially leaving a park after an evening show.

I don't know how much research you have done into onsite/off-site, villa, hotel, town house etc but TheDibb is a great site for help and information.

We love Florida, obviously, but it can be overwhelming both in the planning where you have to book some meals 6 months before hand or just navigating huge parks possibly walking miles and miles a day.
