HEAD LICE NEGLECTFUL MOTHER

OK so i'm really mad about this. My step daughter has come to us 3 weeks in a row crawling with lice. Each time shes been wet combed and had lice treatment .
The problem is she lived with me and dad 50% mother 50% and the mother wont take responsibility shes not even got a nit comb never mind checked her hair. She was aware she had nits as she told us she had them herself ! she class is now sending letter out 'stand everyone check your kids hair letters ' because of an outbreak and we know it down to my step daughter.
Dad has informed she school mother wont do anything about it but what can we do. She wont listen to a word we say shes a compulsive liar says shes checked but hasn't got them yet we know shes crawling. Then she says shes done it but the child has clearly stated shes never treated her hair and we know this is true. I have two boys also at a different school and its not fair for us to keep spending all this money treating her to repeat the process and check the other two daily because she wont treat her when shes with her.
Is there anything else we can do ?
Its not about the money not bothered its the principle of the poor child not been able to shift them and we have to keep repeating a pointless excessive and now the school has an infestation. gggrrrrrrrr!!! surly this is neglect.
The attitude is the same with everything leave it they can do it. Can the school even do anything ?
Are they even allowed to contact her ?

How is the 50:50 done? When is she with you? Life cycle is 3 weeks so treatment needs to continue over a longer period. Is it adults you are finding? What are you treating with?

Use hair straighteners on her hair.
wash it condition it really well, wet comb, dry thoroughly section and straighten.
Or if your sick to death of all the time consuming bollocks, just brush it section it and straighten it, get in well at the roots. Fry the bastards. It will only take ten minutes and is much more pleasant for all concerned. As they get older they get them less. It has obviously become your responsibility as the mother can’t be arsed. Encourage her to keep her hair up as much as possible especially when not with you. Good luck, I remember the ‘nit years’ well!

If you're completely sure, social services may have some advice

ASauvignonADay · 17/06/2019 07:11

It may not be her spreading them. They get everywhere and lots of parents don't bother!

Straighteners don't really work - lice are mobile and move between sections. Also there's always a couple of mm near the scalp which you cannot reach.

It sounds as if your DSD has resistant nits, as the pesticide treatments aren't working (she is with you often enough for you to do the complete treatment cycle)

On 50/50, you will probably see her often enough to treat by the combing method - what is your pattern of contact? Ideally every 3 days for 3 weeks (to get the full breeding cycle)

"Can the school even do anything ?"

In short, no. They are doing all they can in warning about the outbreak. It is also possible there is more than one 'reservoir'

Could you increase your share of custody? If she's not treating nits is she neglectful in other ways too?

My dc have had a period when I seemed to be constantly treating them. I tried all sorts from the overnight only through to various other including combing and conditioning.
Not sure if we weren't getting them all or whether they were being re-infected, but the time I particularly remember was one time with one of mine who had thigh length hair at the time. I used two bottles of hedrin to make sure I completely covered it. Left on overnight. In the morning, we shampooed and as I combed it out, a live large louse crawled out onto her forehead. I think we both cried.
