According to DS2's teacher they aren't doing very much - playing,is what she said. Based on that, we are heading off for Scotland on Friday morning instead of at 2pm when the school finishes

PersonalHouseElf · 18/07/2007 17:31

You're asking me? I don't even know what he does on normal days!

nutcracker · 18/07/2007 17:31

Not alot I don't think.

I would have no qualms about any of mine missing it if they needed to.

MaureenMcGonagall · 18/07/2007 17:32

It depends if its an important year end to them. Personally, I usually couldn't give a damn about the last 3 hours, but this year dd is leaving yr 6, so its a biggie!

Hulababy · 18/07/2007 17:32

I doubt they do very much, and certainly no work!

At DD's school they do some fun activities as a class until 10:30am - just play really. Then from 11-12 is speech day assembly, with prize giving and saying goodybye to the leaving year. Parents attend. Then there are drinks in a marquee outside, and then home time.

ejt1764 · 18/07/2007 17:33

not at all important .... they will probably spend most of the time helping to tidy up / finshing last minute bits and pieces.

TBH misdee - most of the kids where I work (mind you, 'tis a comp, not primary) - don't come in for the last day of term at all ...

MadEyeMisdee · 18/07/2007 17:38

hmmmm just wondering about travellin on hols in the morning and having whole day there instead of getting there in the evening.

mind you dd1 wants me to drive there thursday nioght, no way, not after driving to harefield and back, i will bwe shattered.

they cant do much because dd's last day has been cancelled

REBELlatrixlestrange · 18/07/2007 17:41

Our school has a Yr 6 leaver's service which all the children attend.

It's a lovely way to finish the school year, but to Yr2? not that important.

MadEyeMisdee · 18/07/2007 17:41

why has it been canclled fio?

OP posts:
FioFioJane · 18/07/2007 17:41

because they need to do building work they have SIX WEEKS to do building work fgs, but nevermind

MaureenMcGonagall · 18/07/2007 18:11

I think in the grand scheme of things Misdee, half a days 'non' schooling is not an issue really. Go on holiday and miss all the traffic.

constancereader · 18/07/2007 19:29

I have never been able to understand why schools get so worked up about children missing a few days to go on holiday - and I am a teacher. Especially when they are infants. I'm sure they learn loads of new vocab and have brilliant new life experiences to make up for missing school. GO GO GO.

pointydog · 18/07/2007 19:35

zilch importance

pointydog · 18/07/2007 19:35

academically, that is. Can be socially vital according to some kids

MadEyeMisdee · 18/07/2007 21:10

thats what i'm more worried about5 pointy, is it socially vital to be there on the last day? mind you, all party invites have been done. got everyones phone numbers, only thing is, dd2 uniform voucher arrived today due to hold up at benefits office and may need to pick up her uniform friday morning.

OP posts:
pointydog · 18/07/2007 21:20

no, misdee, not at all. They're all just waiting for the bell.

Mercy · 18/07/2007 21:23

If you are going on hols then not remotely important!

SparklePrincess · 18/07/2007 21:50

Im taking them out for the last 3 days. Dont think theyve been doing much real work for weeks now anyway

jaynehater · 18/07/2007 21:59

Tis not rocket science, at this stage.

Enjoy your holiday
