WE ARE LOOKING TO MOVE OUR SON TO AN INDEPENDANT BOARDING SCHOOL IN THE UK. PREFERABLY IN THE SURREY AREA.
HIS DATE OF BIRTH IS 31.10.2003.I HAVE FOUND OUT HE NEEDS TO BE IN YEAR 11 IN AN ACCELERATED GCSE PROGRAMME TO FIT IN WITH HIS YEAR LEVEL. STATE SCHOOLS INSIST HE START AT YEAR 10 AT THE BEGINNING OF GCSE. I HAVE SHORTLISTED ACS EGHAM AND ACS COBHAM BOTH OFFER ONLY IB. BOXHILL SCHOOL DORKING OFFERS BOTH PROGRAMMES IB AS WELL AS A LEVELS. NEED SOME ADVICE AND HOW TO WIDEN MY SEARCH. CURRENTLY WE ARE IN AUSTRALIA.

The problem is it's midway through GCSE courses so most schools cannot accommodate - the only person I know who arrived in the U.K. at that age put their child back a year. if you are boarding them then you may need to look further afield than one county, decent schools will mostly be full so you are looking for somewhere where a child has left

Independent schools will usually be flexible on entry year for overseas students. How academic is your dc? Boxhill is not academically rigorous and one of the Round Square schools which have a particular ethos. It has also undergone changes to senior management over recent years and has yet to settle down. If you are willing to expand the area a little Ardingly College just into West Sussex might be worth a look. Does ACS offer boarding?

There's a list here of independent schools who offer IB

Is he a good fit for IB though? It's tough unless you are a good all-rounder. If not, either put him back a year, or wait a year to move.

You need to give more details. Is this for a September 2019 start? If so, it is short notice and schools will be full, so you are really looking at finding a schools that has a space by attrition. It might be better to wait a year and go into the L6 / Y12.

Charterhouse offer IB and A Level, are currently co-ed in sixth form and going coed all the way through in 2021.

If full boring, why Surrey particularly? There are schools in neighbouring Sussex, Hampshire and Berkshire that are not far from Surrey and may offer what you want. Eg. Worth School, Ardingly College, Hurstpierpoint College and Brighton College are all in Sussex. I could write a similar list for the other counties.

boarding not boring. One day I might write a reply without a typing error.

If you are moving this summer for Year 11 entrance and will consider boarding, what about looking at the schools that offer Year 11 intention student entrance, with a view to taking a reduced number of GCSEs and then on to A levels or IB. Sidcot (North Somerset) - CoEd, is definitely one that offers this, but there are others also if you have a look around.

If coming from Australia you may find your child is behind. My experience of children joining the UK system is that they were considered average or better in Australia but were about a year behind our pupils (and that was in a state school)

It’s really rude to shout, OP. It’s not a Gumtree ad.

Finally I had the Reply icon..I am thoroughly confused either to keep him in boarding in Australia or to move him to UK and keep him there. Cost wise both are same. Australia might be more challenging for me to go back and forth. They have IB in 11 12 if he continues..

Bromsgrove School isn’t in Surrey but does offer a pre-sixth form year and then IB afterwards for international students. There is a brand new dedicated house for students taking the pre-sixth form year. Then most move into the mixed 6th form house which is like a half way house to university. There are single sex houses available if you prefer. The school is a mix of day and boarders and has a very international feel. The head is from New Zealand.

It doesn’t have exeats so is ideal for international children who don’t have family nearby and would otherwise need to go to a guardian for these long weekends. It has good pastoral care, lots of sports and is not overly selective academically but does well in terms of adding value. The school will collect and drop children at airports at the beginning and end of terms. I can’t say if they have places at short notice but it is a big school and they can usually squeeze an extra student in somewhere!

If you want an educational consultant then use Gabbitas Trust or The Good Schools guide. They are experienced and will tell you the truth, not untruths to get more money from you.

Just to mention on the above - Hurstpierpoint is definitely not a full boarding school. They have day/weekly and flexi boarders.

Have a look at Malvern College - it does IB
