Devonshire House vs Boardhurst vs Mulberry

Hi All,

I am looking for some advice, my DD is late summer born. For her we are targeting schools like Hab's, Channing, SHHS, NLCS for 4+

We have been offered a space for 3+ at Broadhurst, Mulberry house and Devonshire House. We are more inclined to take the space at Devonshire as it goes upto 11+ but just confused now if going to Boardhurst or Mulberry will increase the chance of us getting into a better 4+ school. Any thoughts?

I think that Broadhurst and Mulberry will both do more to prepare your daughter for 4plus because that’s what they aim to do. Devonshire will want her to stay until 11plus so won’t be in their interest to do any prep for 4plus. That said, there isn’t really that much you can do for 4plus other than to tell them to be friendly and happy and do as they are told. However there are also relationships with the schools to think of and if Broadhurdt and Mulberry are regular feeders to schools like Channing and SHHS At 4 plus that may go in your daughters favour. In the same way it may go against her if she’s at Devonshire as the through schools won’t want to upset the relationship they have with Devonshire who are a feeder school for 11 plus iyswim

Mulberry house has a reputation for consistently sending girls to NLCS at 4+ and 7+ every year.

@clubnirvana - examine those claims very carefully. NLCS has very few places available at 7 as no additional places are created. That can mean low single digits at 7 years old.

That's not true. NLCS normally have 40 per year in R/1/2 and then go to 48 per year for the rest of primary. So there should be 8 new places at 7+ in addition to replacing any girls who leave at that point.

FanDabbyFloozy i could be wrong, but please do get in contact with mulberry house to get the full truth

user149799568 is correct about the number of 7+ places.

rosxg it is easier and less stressful to get your DD in early at a school via 4+ assessments, but do look at what is easier for you commute/coach travelling wise. 7+ girls are ok to take the coach by themselves. at nlcs 4+ girls have a coach buddy allocated to them.

in my daughters nlcs year group, there are a few girls from mulberry house. when i was at the mulberry house open evening some time ago they had sent a good number of girls at 4+. at the open evening they have a list of how many children go to which schools at 4+/7+. This list is not on their website for the simple reason is that they are oversubscribed and have a waiting list. so i am not making up some bu!! cr@p
