dd is starting school today, I've just put all her uniform out and shoes and burst into tears. Shes's my baby girl so how did she get to be old enough to go to school? Am also wondering how ds will cope without his 'entertainment'{sad]

I felt like you too Clairabelle when ds started school. Its another milestone and the fact that he has to go somewhere every day for 39 weeks of the year which takes away the freedom to do things as a family. It is a very exciting and positive time though and I'm sure she will be absolutely fine. You on the other hand should think about investing in a bottle of wine for this evening

I felt a little like this dropping DS1 off at Y1 this year. I think it's because I can see him slipping away from me. Now he's at school I can see a long tunnel leading towards university and work when he'll leave home for ever!

DS1 however, finds it hugely exciting and did when he started in reception last year. Within 2 days he was demading to know why I kept picking him up halfway through the day and why couldn't he stay for the whole day. As I said on another thread, on his first day I had to drop him at the classroom door and run away before I cried!

I felt like that last January when reception started full time. DD has just gone into year 1 and it has been lovely to see how her and her friends have really blossomed through out their reception year, makes it feel all totally fine now. Good luck for today.

clairabelle - I can empathise with this feeling -on Tuesday ds started year 3, so is in the junior part of the school.Instead of taking him to his classroom door to be greeted by the teacher they have to go into the big playground to wait for the whistle...I was sad anyway about the passing of time, growing up etc but to see him clutching his enormous new PE bag among the huge juniors made me very tearful - I wasn't the only one, though! I guess it'll always be like this - milestones in life are bittersweet things - it's good to move on and everything but I'm grieving for the infant days ! (plus I do miss him being at home - we had such a nice time just pottering about over the holidays).

Forgot to add that he seems to be having a good time so far !
