We are considering Horris Hill for our 7 and 8 year old sons. I would love to hear from parents who are currently at the school or those with recent experience.
Thank you in advance.

Horris Hill school is very near me. It seems like a really gentle boys school - in a good way, known to get boys into winchester college. Like sunningdale school it seems to have more of a tight knit community feel than ludgrove and cothill which although look amazing and have great opportunities for boys seem more cold and are known for rich connections. There is a day option at Horris Hill. If they are boarding I wonder if they going because you travel around a lot or are worried about the hothouse environment in London. I completely get that worry but common entrance preparation doesn't really start until year 6/year 7 and sending them away later won't risk those chances and they will then get more time to enjoy their childhood in the love of their family home. Some people thrive in boarding schools loving the friendships made and the opportunities they get while others get very homesick missing out on all the love and cuddles with their family on a usual daily basis. The later they go the easier it is for them. However if Boarding school is the best option for your children Horris Hill is a great one as they offer Transition Boarding enabling boys to go home one midweek night and on weekends. At Sunningdale they can weekly board but full time boarders only go home about once a month whereas at Ludgrove it is full boarding from the age of 8 but they go home every other weekend which can be nicer. It can be nice for them to get used to boarding in a cosier prep environment before moving onto a big public school. However there’s no escaping the fact that when you send your child to boarding school, you’re handing over a major chunk of their upbringing to someone else. If they are going as day boys they would be lucky to get the best of both worlds. day pupils bus in from Winchester, Basingstoke and Marlborough. There an adventure playground in the woods and an outdoor pool at this school and a new theatre. There’s room for many more kids, but at Horris Hill they have taken the decision to keep it small, friendly, family-oriented and inclusive. There are no more than 14 to a class

It's not correct that the boarders only come home every 4 weeks at Sunningdale. It's usually every 2 or 3 weeks. There will be a calendar on the school website which will show you when they are.

My son has been at HH for a couple of years, weekly boarding.
We've been very happy with the school- it has an academic ethos, with boys going to Winchester, Eton, Radley etc. Lovely atmosphere, great location, with gorgeous grounds. We were offered places at Summerfields, Cothill and Pilgrims, but HH was a good fit for us. You really have to go on your gut feel.
