Do I disclose DS has taster day at new school?

I'm hoping to move my kids to a new school and arranged a taster day in a couple of weeks. I would normally just call in sick but both my kids have just been sick for over a week, plus DH has told DS1 so I'm not sure he'll be able to keep it secret. It's a bit embarrassing tbh. Both kids are currently in state school. Should I just tell them outright?

When I was 8, I went for a tester day at a new school. Naturally I told my teacher the next day - she was really surprised to know I was moving school!

So unless your kids are better at keeping secrets then I was, it's maybe better to tell them._

I would tell the school. You might need a reference from them and honesty is the best policy.

I’d tell the school. I’ve just moved my dd. The school did t want her to go but it’s not their decision. Kids will be excited and blurt the truth anyway

I would just say. I don't see what's embarrassing. Children move schools all the time.

Just tell them. We get this occasionally. There's an authorised absence register code for it too.

Ok will do. Thanks for the advice.

Could they refuse it? If there is a risk of this I'd think twice. Presumably they've had the reference already anyway. If you can be honest you should of course. What would you do if it's refused?

I moved my son after many failings. I was taken to one side one day after the new school had contacted them... They were pretty angry and demanded to know why I would move him.

I felt ambushed and it reaffirmed my decision!

Just tell them. You’re over-estimating how much schools care about stuff like this.

Just this. Teachers don't get paid for the number of children in their class, one fewer is just one less book to mark! If your child leaves, another one will soon join. Why would a school be bothered? ( Plus they probably already know as the possible school will almost certainly have contacted them already, it's common practice.)
