Please can anyone whose children have attended this 6th form college share their experience and opinions? Thank you.

I went there years ago but still have family members who left relatively recently.

Excellent academically but being a sixth form college you also get that bit more “grown up” treatment.

I chose it over King Edwards Five Ways and don’t regret it one bit.

@Zodlebud thank you. We will go and have a look round to get a feel of the atmosphere, and ask some questions.

@Zodlebud would you be willing to say what grades your family members achieved and what they did after leaving?

I got 3 A’s and went to Cambridge.

Most recent family member leaver left with two As and a B and went to a Russell Group University.

Of the four most recent leavers (within the last five years), they all went onto Russell Group universities.

It won’t be for everyone as by nature a stand-alone sixth form is very different to one that is part of a school. Perhaps more emphasis on needing to be self driven as opposed to pushed. For me it was a great stepping stone in preparation for university life.

Many thanks! I know what you mean about self motivation. It sounds good though.

Hi there, my dd is also thinking of going there although she’s only year 10. My brother and sister went and loved it but that was a long time ago (late 90s/early 2000s). They both did well.

A colleague’s boys left last year and are both at RG unis.

My main concern is her being self motivated enough. And also making friends - I think some large groups come from particular schools and don’t mix?

There will always be large numbers coming from local schools but everyone who starts there is new. Sure some will stick with the familiar but there’s about 2,000 students there so the chances of not finding “your tribe” are very slim. Unless your daughter struggles socially then I really wouldn’t worry about making friends.

FYI I was the only person who went there from my school and I was just fine.
