Advice on Sixth Forms in Surrey/SW Lond for dyslexics please?

My DD is in year 10 and we are thinking about which sixth form may suit her.

We live on the Surrey/SW London borders (New Malden) and DD is bright, but moderate/severe dyslexic. We don’t feel that her current school (state grammar) supports her needs very well and has a lack of knowledge about Dyslexia.

We would consider an independent school if that would suit her needs better.

Does anyone have any advice please?

The best school in the area that I can suggest for dyslexia support would be BoxHill school OP.

Thank you Tinkobell, I will have a look at Box Hill school Smile

Prior's Field in Godalming is good for SEN but IMO doesn't push academic girls as much as it could.
I second Box Hill.
Other good ones are Moon Hall Senior in Reigate but looking at their leavers' destinations I think by the sixth form it is more for pupils who are still really struggling to produce the academic results they deserve. A friends son moved to the Moon Hall prep from Lanesborough school and returned three years later with loads of strategies. He went on to RGS, Oxford and is now a banker. So I honestly don't know...Worth looking into though?

Moon Hall only goes up to GCSEs, no sixth form. Most go onto local sixth form colleges - Reigate, East Surrey, Nescot etc depending on where the pupils live, as they typically have a range of vocational courses as well as A Levels.

How dyslexic? Does she need a reader and or scribe or is it processing speed. Are you looking for A levels or Btec? What is working memory like? Sorry for so many questions but depending on level of need, I may be able to help.

@Flyingarcher

Thank you!

She will be doing A levels in Maths and Science most likely as those are her strong subjects.

She doesn’t need a reader or s scribe, but her working memory is in the bottom 1% and her processing is slow.

Any help gratefully received!

Hi @Zilla74. DD17 has told me that St Theresa's in Effingham is known as the best school in the area for students with dyslexia offering a broad spectrum of support and tools in house. I would certainly look at them, they go through to A Level. Best of luck!
