Children turning into soldiers

Any TAs or teachers?
Is it just my primary school or do
You feel like it's turning into like so
So regimental.
Line up line up, don't run, don't talk, don't have fun, don't laugh, don't do anything unless it's learning.
Learning learning learning.
Don't hug, don't have emotions.
Our school seems to be turning into the impossible.
Yes kids need to learn, but they also need to have fun.
Maybe it's just the head?
But just feels like we are wanting robots, or mini soldiers.

My school is up to year 2 and I just feel like it's all to much!

Sad

Learning is fun.

Lining up and walking without talking is important. Presumably they still get lunch and dinner breaks where they can run around?

CrAzYmUmOf2 · 25/09/2018 20:02

Of course lining up is important, and yes learning is fun. But it feels like it's constantly line up line up line up, sit down sit down sit down.

The school seems like it's just making robots 🤖 :(

I agree completely though not all infant or primary schools are that bad. There are still those fighting hardl to keep kind and nurturing environments for little ones. I do think secondary are in the worst dip in education for many years. Not teaching staff, but the business management of academies and the running of schools to be in competition with each other to boost profits and results. The ones who lose will be this generation who have suffered at the whims of idiot ideologists. I am certain we will look back incredulous we ever let this happen.

My daughters teacher moved her onto orange ( first stage naughtiness.) for having her cardigan on the table today. She had been taught amby another teacher who couldn’t give a monkeys about where cardigans are kept when the class teacher returned she quickly moved her jumper, knowing she was now to be seen breaking a rule. She said her Cardi keeps falling onto the floor from the back of her chair. She was mortified- and very worried when she came home ( she is 9.) worried she would end up getting the ultimate yellow card which she tells me takes around 5 naughty steps to attain. I had to calm her down and explain that it would be silly if that did happen- and Not to worry about it all. Going to bed tonight unwell she said I’m not well I don’t want to read but I will get told off. Frankly- I think her teacher is a bit of a cow.

Are you a teacher, a TA or a parent?

You sound like you're describing David Copperfield or Oliver Twist.

But hey, it's open season on schools and teachers on MN till at least November, so fill your boots.

Carrrotsandcauliflower · 25/09/2018 20:35

Well that’s my point- along with what the op is saying that as a parent I had to have a long conversation to calm my daughter down about accidentally breaking a rule.
But hey what would I know about school culture I just attended two, a college and a university and have three children in primary school but fill your boots on shouting down parents who would like to constructively contribute.

I am a TA, and I have worked In this school for 7 years. When I first started we had a different head and we had a good offstead. Then just before they left we got improvement required.
Fair enough. The school has improved in deco and looks better, but man it just seems so regimental and many staff have left. Maybe it's the new government and all the new education practices that have come in, but seriously you can even have a laugh with the kids any more. It's been like this now for a few years and we are waiting for the imminent offstead inspection again in the next year.

I think as a parent also when my child went to this school she thrived and had a great time. Just seems like it's just destined to become an academy.....

Sorry just ranting I guess Hmm

Thank you op it’s rubbish. My schools were strict. There was no nonsense tolerated so I don’t feel like I’m coming from a place of some kind of hippy education experience. I love our school, it’s a really great school but I totally get what your saying about regimented mentality creeping in. I have teacher and teaching assistant friends and they are saying similar to you- my teaching assistant friend jut says her academy is slashing and slashing at budget and staff constantly. No time to get into the fun side she feels, because her time is so stretched.

CrAzYmUmOf2 · 25/09/2018 21:05

Yeah most or pretty much all
The teachers and TAs feel the same.
Our head is also soooo 🙄, patronising and has no management skills.
One TA has just walked out as she was treated awful, and she is also a parent of a child in the same school....
So with the head and the mini army the school is just turning Into an army of robot kids Confused

bookme I am very supportive of my DCs school but comments like yours really annoy me. Everyone a parent has a concern about their child's school someone moans that they're teacher bashing or school bashing.

There are massive issues in the UK education system. There is a lot of evidence to suggest that we start formal education far too young, put too much pressure on children and its contributing to absolutely horrifying levels of MH problems.

I'm not claiming that this is the fault of individual teachers at all But parents absolutely have a right to an opinion on the education of their children.

Just as parents don't know exactly what happens in school and may get the wrong impression teachers often have no idea about the impact school is having on a child which only manifests at home. Both voices should be heard.
