Stowe or Sherborne?

Hi - any opinions gratefully received...I need to decide between these two schools for DS, who is sporty, country lover, currently happy weekly boarder at boys' prep but was also happy at previous, co-ed prep. DS is dyslexic, so we looking for somewhere he will be 'supported but stretched.' Other schools have not found DS' pre test scores to be of sufficient magnitude and we like both of these options but can't decide, so if any current parents are around, please help!

Bookmarking as we have a very similar DS....

Hi Ruggles
Ano mnetter pm'd me to suggest Bromsgrove, too, as another good option, FYI

Other ideas:

Malvern
Bloxham?
Kingham Hill
Rugby

Mix of schools I realise 😊

How you describe your son, both schools seem to fit the bill. My FiL went to Stowe and I am not impressed by the product but knowing his family can't really blame it on the school. Children I know of who recently started at Stowe were very able (top of class in CE) and talented (started working towards piano diploma at 12), so I would be confident that your son will get stretched. A friend of mine works at Sherborne and plans to send her ds there. She is a Cambridge med grad and harbours the same ambitions for her ds, so again, you will find academically able boys there with ambitious parents. And Sherbourne is such a beautiful place but a bit more remote. What would be easier for you to get to? I would like to visit for matches/concerts/events as often as possible so would choose the nearest one - given your son likes them both. Which one does he prefer? If he would struggle with/bored with A levels, then Shiplake would be an alternative as it offers a range of practical BTECs.

Thank you, NellyBarney - Sherborne IS slightly further away than I wd wish...
But i do wonder whether Sherborne might be the slightly more down to earth of the 2 schools?
Does anyone know if either school deals well with hierarchies/misbehaviour/
bullying, pls?

Thanks also to you maple sorry didn't see your post before somehow...
Rugby v nice but too far away for us - feel we need to decide between these 2 schools rather than bring more into the.mix...Smile

I get the impression that Sherborne may be the most down to earth. Heavy caveat as this is based on second hand comments from friends. Stowe is slightly trying to reinvent itself though with the day offering
